com.apple.Safari.SafeBrowsing.Service quit unexpectedly
why do i keep getting a problem report saying com.apple.Safari.SafeBrowsing.Service quit unexpectedly.
MacBook Pro, macOS Sierra (10.12.1)
Same problem (Mexico) as I post. It started this morning but I thought it was something from Mail.app since I wasn't even using Safari. It's annoying as ****. Time interval seems random but after observation it seems to repeat every 100 seconds after I press ok.
Deleted the files as you explained and everything works fine. Thanks
how do you remove these files when (when you try to do so) it says the files can't be removed because they are needed for the macOS system?
btw so far after having run bitdefender deep scan and removing various files (but unsure if those have anything to do with the problem) i haven't seen the popup safari.safebrowsing.service show up - perhaps the problem has been solved at the source?
This has been working for the last 10mins for me. Thank you VERY much.
Started getting the message yesterday after updating to Sierra.
Would come up every couple of minutes if I 'ignored' the pop up.

Same here ...Over and over...No solutions??? By the way, my whole Mac is extremely erratic since I upgraded to Sierra...Clean install it I guess, might be the best solution...

oh bugger... that popup just came up again... grrrrrrr i guess i can only hope apple is going to come up with a solution within a few days? since it's apple-software related

i've managed to find the location of this com.apple.Safari.SafeBrowsing.Service which keeps popping up every few seconds (driving me nuts) but i can't remove anything. When i try it says the com.apple.blahblahservice can't be removed or changed as it's required for macOS.
You shouldn't try to remove the service... what has been working is removing three data files that the service is reading from. Those files live in /private/var/folders/...someRandomName/...anotherRandomName/...thirdRandomName/ com.apple.Safari.SafeBrowsing/Google/
So once you get to /private/var/folders/, you'll need to start digging. Someone posted terminal commands in another thread which look like they'll work fine. Delete the three files in that Google folder. No need to restart anything, the crashes will stop immediately.
ok but i have no idea at all where to find that /private/var/folders thing..
for the last time, lol, am pointing out that the problem just stopped here, suggesting that the issue was at google's end, or apple perhaps. i didn't delete those '3' files, the problem stopped while i was typing my first response on this thread...
Worked! Path is /private/var/folders/lp/RANDOM_STRING_HERE/C/com.apple.Safari.SafeBrowsing/Goog le/ deleted 3 files there. Thanks
You may be right, and Google or Apple has cleaned this up, but people are still reporting the problem. In any event I find that after removing the folder (and it coming right back) the problem went away and stayed away even after a system restart.
Yes, fisherKing, we saw that it stopped for you. Great! You may not have noticed that others have come in here since then that still have the problem. Again, I'm glad it isn't a problem for you anymore (or me either), I'm just trying to pass along information that helped me to those who are still afflicted...
From the Finder's 'Go' menu, select "Go to folder..." at the bottom of the list.
In the window that pops up, type (or copy/paste) /private/var/folders/
A new Finder window will open that you can navigate through. I recommend Column view for this... be careful in there. Lots of necessary system files that need to stay put.
am not trying to be contrary, just wanted to point out what happened here, suggesting that perhaps, for some, waiting a bit will fix it.
btw, a great free app to take you directly to com.apple.Safari.SafeBrowsing is easyfind (select 'files and folders' and 'show hidden items').
thanks so far; i did as you said but then i only see two folders (vc and zz) and neither have anything with google or a folder named google like what is mentioned before by others... i'd almost think: just delete the lot but i have no idea if i can or if that's wise (looks like rubbish but then i'm not a computer wiz), anyway.. this is a big pain
