iOS 10.2 TV app offline issues

So sync'd 12 movies and 50 TV shows for a flight. Get onboard and the Movies all work in offline mode fine - though the offline mode is clunky - seems to wait to check for a connection even though wifi is off and airplane mode is on

TV shows showed the titles (this was in downloaded upper left category) - going one level deeper to specific episodes in each title resulted in a busy indicator on the TV app and then a blank list. Had this happen for ALL TV shows - again movies were fine.

Connected to inflight WiFi and viola - list is updated. Go back offline and then it all works as it should.

HIGHLY suggest checking to see if your content works offline before leaving your itunes sync location if not using cloud download for content.

How did this pass QA? I know the TV app replaces Videos but for offline use it's a buggy mess - would prefer an option to go back to the Videos app. Now rolling this out to 5 year old on her iPad is going to be painful - keeping her device on an older iOS build till this is fixed.

iPad Mini, iOS 10.2, iPad Mini 2 actually w/cellular

Cognizant Apple employees read ALL daily feedback, but because of the sheer number of feedback entries, Apple does not respond with individual replies to the feedback forms.

But Apple does receive, reads and keeps track of all personal customer feedback responses and data.

This is how Apple is made aware of product hardware/software issues/problems.

Apple will never reply/respond to the product feedback section.

That form is for collecting data on products.

So, the more times you submit feedback, the better than chances for a fix/solution from the cognizant Apple product teams.

I accidentally found a way to get the old Video app back on my iPad and iPhone.

I happen to have access to both US iTunes and Australian iTunes accounts.

All I have to do was log out from the US iTunes account and then login using te Australian iTunes account. Once logged in, I download or update apps. Once the download begins the TV app is replaced with the old Video app.

This is a temporary fix. As soon as I return to the US iTunes, the TV app replaced the Video app once again.

I have screenshots of both the TV And Video app, but I have not been able to upload here from my iPad.

By the way both my iPad and iPhone are running iOS 10.2.1

Can anyone give it a try?

So I followed the instructions on how to remove downloaded content (TV shows and movies) from my iPhone's TV app, but it's super glitchy and only works sometimes. I hate that Apple got rid of the Video app that worked and replaced it with something that should still be in beta. Talk about pulling a Microsoft! Anyway, I'm about to go on a trip and need to get rid of my current content to put new movies and shows on for the flight, but like I stated this glitchy app won't work. Most of the shows and movies show the download sign instead of saying "downloaded" even though they are in the downloaded section of the app and I know that they are downloaded. Every now and then one will change and I can click the "remove download", but most are still not registering as downloaded. *** Apple?!

Yep, I updated last night and it appeared to be working — I could add videos to my iPad and view them when offline. I even did a hard reboot and checked again. Okay.

But the app is slow to respond and I'm afraid it's going to be a clunky piece of iOS software as it constantly tries to connect with my cloud or iTunes store or whatever latest iTunes feature I don't care about. Frankly, I don't see purchasing video content through iTunes again after this fiasco. Maybe for videos I've already converted to iPad format from my BD/DVDs, but that's it.

I agree. I stopped buying content. I now downloaded the VLC player, I can download from content from other places, and then view it through VLC. I also purchased a DRM remover and stripped the security from iTunes purchases and play them in my VLC. Apple deserves this. This was no accident, no one would have slipped this through QA. This was a tests they can force our content to remain in the cloud in future so we cannot share anything. Goodbye Apple. See you

Same here. I upgraded to iOS10.3 and the TV app is still a mess. Takes forever to start - I assume it's trying to sync with iTunes and cloud - even when I'm in an airport. Crashes when I stream media from my iMac at home (not streaming from the net, streaming from hard drive - I live in rural area - have to buy BRDs and rip them to iTunes). The interface won't let me delete videos on my iPad - I can only delete them through iTunes. Movies and TV shows that are on my iPad don't show up as being on there when looking at iPad content in iTunes (i'm on the latest version of iTunes too). It's become too much trouble. I find the interface very user un-friendly. Meanwhile, there have been zero improvements to the player itself, like 10 or 30 second forward/reverse options (instead of using progress bar), movie data like actors who are in scenes or name of songs playing in background. So, I downloaded VLC for iOS. Takes a few extra steps to get video on it, but still less hassle than TV app. Frustrating since I invested heavily in Apple products in late 2013 (2 iMacs, 4 AppleTVs, 2 MacBook Pros, 4 iPads, 4 iPhones). I did it because everything "just works" without the hassle like Windows-based stuff. Sadly, that's no longer the case. I've seen an accelerating decline in the quality of their products. It's about time to replace my MacBooks - I'm seriously considering something Windows-based.

Sad news about iOS 10.3 and thevawful TV app. Haven't upgraded my iPhone5c and can't on my now vintage iPad mini. So I plan to hold out on iOS 9.3.5 For as long as I can. Sounds like Apple will give up on my iPhone anyway. iOS 11 won't work on it since it will likely require 64-bit software

By the way, I have zero problems watching DVDs on my Windows 10 laptop.

And VLC player on iPad and iPhone is my go-to app for media that I don't want to bother loading into iTunes. Works great with Dropbox.

I have quit purchasing videos from iTunes since this update. I have no intention of purchasing again until this is fixed. My internet is not always reliable so I download and watch. iTunes has lost many hundreds of dollars from this customer. In addition, it was one thing I like about iPad. I'll consider buying a different product when I purchase a new device in a couple months.

iOS 10.3 and 10.3.1 has solved most, but not quite all of the TV app issues.

So, you might want to consider updating, at this time.

Plus iOS 10.3 is both a HUGE update for iOS as it introduces Apple new file structure system AFS, it replaces the very old HFS+ file system formatting, as well as introduces a huge and SLEW of security updates for iOS.

The additonal benefits of this update is the the new files structure format will return, at least, 3 GBs plus of free data storage to your iDevices.

Try updating to iOS 10.3.2.

I advise doing the upgrade by connecting your iPad to a computer using the latest iTunes instead of doing the update over the air using WiFi, if that is possible.

After updating, do a hard reset of your iPad by holding down both the Home and sleep/wake buttons simultaneously until your iPad goes to black and restarts with Apple logo, then release the buttons?

See if the TV App is working, then.

Good Luck!
