AirPods disconnects on calls

AirPods pair correctly with iPhone 6s Plus (iOS 10.2) and randomly during the call they get disconnected. The BT connection gets lost and I have to connect them again manually.

Happens several times during long calls with no apparent pattern. The AirPods are fully charged.

The strange thing is that while listening to music, this problem doesn't show up, only on phone calls.

I hope I'm wrong, but most likely your issues will return with the new Airpods, since the issue appears to be not associate with the Airpods themselves but with how the BT connection is handled between Airpods and iPhone (especially 6/6S) and Apple Watch. The supporting evidence for this comes from the fact that iOS 10.3 beta update eliminates the issue completely without altering anything in the Airpods.

Regardless.... good luck!

Had not one call drop using iPhone 7 and 7plus both on latest IOS 10.3 public beta 7..

I got my AirPods with latest FW installed from factory FW 3.5.1 ...

No cut outs on music or disconnected calls no lag or drops in any way..

Been perfect in that respect for my set..

I'm in Aussie and as mentioned got one of the newest batches..

Hopefully your and all other connection issues gets resolved upon the 2nd FW update for the AirPods..

It's been one week with my replacement AirPods. No problems. I had one day with them on my iPhone 6s Plus running 10.2.1 that had the problems with my original pair. And, six days on a new iPhone 7 Plus running 10.2.1. Also have an Apple Watch Series 0. Think I'm out of the woods.

Before and after AirPods, I still do have this strange issue of the Music app pausing on its own, but that's probably for another thread.

This has been a frequent intermittent issue since I got my Air Pods about 6 weeks ago. I have iPhone 7 and Apple Watch. My issue usually occurs at the start of a call - but I'm not on the phone for long periods so it could be that I just haven't been on a call at a time they dropped. I just tried to make a call 9 times and couldn't get the sound to go through the headphones. Connected, reconnected, restarted, played music before the call, had to give up and do a sensitive call on speaker because I also needed my hands!

I have the same problem with my iPhone 6s Plus. iOS 10.2.1.

I have found that it disconnects several times during a phone call.

I also have problems listening to podcasts as it will occasionally drop and I have to reconnect the AirPods.

I have found that if I turn off Wi-Fi during listening that the dropping tops. I have a good test of this with a phone call, but I will test it.

Basically I believe the iPhone 6s Plus has an issue with maintaining Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connections at the same time for extended periods. Especially during phone calls.

I'm having this issue too. Im trying to gauge how many times this is an issues with an iPhone 6s paired with the AirPods versus iPhone 7. As I'm not getting anywhere with support on this, and Apple have not followed up from investigating. I've had a third party look at it and suspect it's a hardware issue with a certain version of the 6s with the Bluetooth chip used. Has anyone had a resolution from support at all? thinkihg I may need to take next steps but need to find out true nunbers

iPhone6S 128 Go with latest iOS, Airpod and Apple Watch 2 with same problem.

When having the Apple Watch not connected (I left it at home during my holidays) Airpods work correctly on phone calls using both of them

No doubt issues is coming from too many apple product which is weird.

No issue when i am using my Bose QC30. 😟

Has anybody heard about the same issue with iPhone7/Airpods/Watch2?

I called Apple support and no solution yet. Obviously extremelly disappointing

Does the latest OS mean10.3 beta (3+)? Thats' what seems to fix it for most people.

Everyone, you need to mention the exact version of the OS you are using. It's easy to get the beta version by signing up to the iOS beta program, so if you have not done it and this issue is frustrating to you, do it. I have not seen any other issue pop up either using beta 3 through 6 so far (have not tried beta 7 yet). [6S, 10.3.6 beta, Apple Watch gen 1, Airpods 3.5.1 firmware]. Still rock solid (on or off wifi which is always on).

Yes I do also use an Apple Watch !

Feel that the drop out problems occur especially when I'm in my office surrounding with lots of bluetooth and other network disturbances. Reading the posts that apparently phone call drop out problems disappear after re-pairing could support my findings that I do not have the call drop outs when I'm outside , away from other networks. Could be a bluetooth priority issue !? iTunes music play without any issues (iPhone 6+ , iOs 10.3)

10.3 beta 3 pretty much fixed this issue. If you stayed with the update schedule of releases, the final beta (8?) is the same as the final version as it has the same build number. There should be no need to update to the released version in this case although you might want to delete your beta profile to stop getting future beta updates. For example, I didn't do that and saw that ios 10.3.2 beta was already available!
