AirPods disconnects on calls

AirPods pair correctly with iPhone 6s Plus (iOS 10.2) and randomly during the call they get disconnected. The BT connection gets lost and I have to connect them again manually.

Happens several times during long calls with no apparent pattern. The AirPods are fully charged.

The strange thing is that while listening to music, this problem doesn't show up, only on phone calls.

I have an AppleWatch and have been having some interesting issues with it and the AirPods as well. It seems that once the AppleWatch gets control of the audio, Siri stops working and it won't let the audio go for anything other than a phone call.

Also, I have an appointment at the Apple Store to go over this stuff with them this afternoon.

I have had my airpods for a week now. Love them except for phone calls. I have iphone 6s, ios 10.2. I have apple watch series 2 with latest firmware. I will experiment on the way home today with one in my ear and see if the call drops. Yesterday on my iphone the little headphone icon completely disappeared and the sound cut out. I question whether I should take them back and try and exchange them at best buy but I figure I will be waiting months for another set. I have reset the airpods, cleared network settings on iphone 6s etc, I get the same disconnect with both of them in on a phone call. Thing is everyone can hear me so well even when I am outside and no other bluetooth headset I have had has ever worked that well. Does everyone think this has to do only with iphone 6s/+ phones?

A week ago I tried the solution: "reset networks settings" on my 6S and reset the AirPods. Then re-paired. After this, I had only 1-2 drops over a week. I did make a Genius Bar appt. The tech said they don't have the diagnostic tools yet, and no stock to replace them. Since they were working better, I just asked my issue be documented.

This morning I shut down my phone, and watch series 2, then turned them back on. I do this every month or so to clean out the cobwebs. Today has been awful for phone calls. I finally called Apple support, and the AirPods dropped the connection 4 times in the first 15 minutes of the call.

Apple support set up a Genius Bar appt. next Monday. The store is supposed to have a new pair to swap for this pair. If I can get there earlier for a walk-in session, I can swap my pair out.

Same issue.

iPhone 6s 10.2 / Apple Watch (first gen)

I've one thing to add when the connection drops and you take one AirPod out it will reconnect immediately - put back in and it drops a few seconds later.

Is Apple monitoring this thread? I contacted Apple via chat (Germany). Does anybody know if international support escalates to engineering as well or would it be best to contact US support?

IIPhone 6S Plus iOS 10.2 with Apple WatchOS 3.1 (original stainless watch) - calls disconnect with 2 AiPods even after completely reloading iOS and resetting my Apple Watch. I don't think the problem is with their existing versions of OS. Either a hardware problem or a software problem that needs a hot fix. Reloading and resetting existing phones and existing watches with current mainstream software does nothing to correct the glitch.

meanwhile, I agree with many users that while the AirPods work good with Music and other apps they are an excellent product. Music quality for me is fantastic. Quality of calls is very good although a bit low volume Using one pod. None of the callers I talked to complained about quality of my voice even walking outside or in a crowded public place.

ONe more glitch discovered today. While running outside in a cold weather I had my AirPods and my ears were covered by a skullcap. Too cold running without it. So when my ears were covered I could not use a voice command "Hey Siri". The voice command worked great indoors on the treadmill when my ears were not covered! Does Apple expect us to never wear any head gear while wearing AirPods? Are they going to make their own Apple EarMuffs?
