Hi,

I gathered my replacement units last Friday in an Spanish store, and the new ones STILL have the same bad battery draining behavior. Far far away from the 24hh duration. If the earpods are inside the box, battery lasts a couple of days what is unacceptable.

Honestly, I believe in Apple taking care of the quality of a product when sending it to the market, but with AirPods, I start to believe something has changed. My opinion is that they wanted to release it before the end of the year to not miss Christmas holidays but there were still problems in the product.

If Apple doesn't fix it quickly, or clarify the status, or change the specs of them or say something, I don't think they are gonna sell many of these.

I don't recommend them for the price and the features they really provide.

I too got significant battery drain in the case overnight. Before freaking out I removed the connection in my bluetooth profile on my iPhone and reset the device by holding in the button on the back of the case like in the instructions in an earlier post. Then I fully charged them and put them by my bedside near my phone and after over 14 hours I opened the case next to my phone and I had 100% for airpods and 100% for the case. Fearing that by opening the case I would reintroduce the bug I checked about 20 minutes later and they were still all at 100%. Hope many of you will try resetting before going to Apple Store. I already had support ready to give me another set. Glad I tried the reset. Thanks again.

Apple updated the firmware of the AirPods from 3.3.1 to 3.5.1. I checked mine by opening the case and then going to Settings > General > About and then at the bottom you will see AirPods (as long as the case remains open). That's where you will see your firmware version, serial number, among other info. Mine automatically updated, but I don't know when so I don't know if the reset fixed it or the firmware update. MacRumors.com has more info on the update.

I tried that. I don't get the point in this procedure... It is the normal start up procedure when you open de box...

Let me know if I am doing something wrong:

- Disconnect AirPods from iPhone bluetooth settings.

- Reset AirPods by holding in the button on the back of the case. They will show white light and use iPhone to connect again.

The new thing I am going to try now is to avoid opening the case until tomorrow morning to check if the battery is extra drained when battery level is checked opening the case. Honestly, these days I check the status of the battery very often to try to figure out what was the problem...

are you runnin the newest iOS on your iPhone? If you leave your AirPods case near the phone the update should happen automatically at some point. I noticed that mine updated after my battery life was so much improved. I thought it was because I reset the AirPods and re-paired them, but now I think it's really from update. Once you get your AirPods to update to 3.5.1 you should be ok.

Here has been my experience with this battery drain.

TAKE AWAY: A replacement charging case was the ONLY solution for me.

I was in the same boat as everyone else on this thread. Airpods and case were draining super fast (on average 2% per hour over night). I contacted Apple Support and received replacement airpods but did not fix it. I then requested a replacement charging case and it has literally fixed my battery issues. Now I can't even get the charging case to discharge by 1% in 24 hours of non-use. It's pretty crazy the night and day difference I'm seeing.

In my case I am 100% sure it wasn't the airpods that were causing the issue. It was the charging case.

Hope this helps!

PS -- the firmware update didn't even help my old charging case.

I don't have a charging issue when in the case but have one airpod that doesn't fully charge--the left will be at 37% and right and case at 100%. This is fairly recent--within last two weeks and I got the first batch from the Apple store. I've found if I remove the right pod, leave the left in and don't connect the case it will charge--but not always--sometimes it will discharge. The light will flicker from green to orange to green, etc. I'm wondering if the left pod isn't making contact to charge--but wonder why I have gone a number of months without any problem. My software is 3.5.1

Have you tried fully resetting the AirPods?

You can do this by flipping the lid open and holding down the paring button until the orange (charging) light blinks. (Approx holding time: 15 secs). If you have tried this and the battery is still draining rapidly, I recommend going to an Apple store and getting them looked at because that is not normal.

I hope this helps out a lot of people 🙂
