My situation is slightly different. The case itself charges the AirPods just fine. But the case cannot be charged. If I leave the case plugged in and charging, (Pods in or out) it maintains its present charge. Right now and for the past 48 hours, the case sits at a 59% charge. When I first got the pods, the case was 74%. It will remain like this as long as it's plugged in and charging. If I stop charging it, the case will slowly lose charge.

I was escalated to a senior advisor from Apple today who tried to troubleshoot, but since there's not much to actually troubleshoot with this new device (unlike an iPhone), we scheduled an appt at the genius bar.

The AirPods are always on / standby even when not in use. On average, they seem to discharge about 3-4% per hour when not in use.

The way apple tested and claims battery life is unrealistic. They just fully drained the AirPods, charged for 30 min, fully drained, and repeated that till they were dead. They got 24 hours of listening time, which I think I would to under that test.

That doesn't test the standby time at all!

They would have been better off to say the battery life is:

AirPods: 5 hours listening or 2 hours talk time or 1 day standby time

AirPods+Case: 24 hours listening time or 11 hours talk time or 5 days standby time

And I sometimes go 15-20 hours without any noticeable case drain. That's just the battery meter playing tricks on me I think. Over time, it seems to suggest a constant drain if I take the average over days (standby + use).

Hi all. I have found possible a solution that worked for me! And also a way to check if the solution is working for you.

I had so much trouble with the pods it just made am disappointed because of the battery drain. It appears that all of us experiencing the drain have one thing in common. The pods don't go to sleeep when out in to the case. Actually, just check your widgets (swiping right on your home screen). Even when the pods are in the case the pods show up.

Mine don't show up anymore when they are in the case. They are in sleep mode when they are in the case now. What I did was the following. I hit that button on the back of the case for around 30 seconds or so until the light became white and started to flash orange. I realeased the button then and restarted my phone and reconnected the pods with my phone. Somehow I'm not seeing the drain as before. Maybe it's a fluke but it works for me. I thought I'd share this with you all.

UPDATE: After much adding and subtracting AirPod items out of the equation, my problem of the case not charging itself has been identified. It was the charging cable that came with the pods. Using any other cable to charge the case fixed the issue. If you haven't figured out your issue yet and it's similar to mine, try a different charging cable. The Pods AND case are now fully functional and working beautifully. Love them!
