I read all this thread and I don't know what is a "normal" drain.
Yesterday I used my airpods exactly twice during 1 hour and yesterday evening Airpods was at 100% and case at 72%.
Based on these data, impossible to charge 5 times the Airpods from 0% to 100% as Apple says!
But is it normal compared to all of you? Or do somebody have better results, for example case at 90% for this kind of use? I don't speak about the drain while we aren't used them.
Ok so I've tried a few things now. Basically I was seeing a 100% case and Pods goto a 50% case and 100% pods (having fluctuated between 95-100% constantly while in the case) after 24 hrs no use. Checking the case at intervals and not checking the case for 24 hrs made negligible difference. Turning phone off at night etc also had no effect. While in the case the AirPods seem to remain on continually drawing from the case battery. Removing the pods from the case for 24 hrs and the case held its charge further support my theory that the pods aren't shutting down despite the Apple manual saying they do while in the case. Therefore the only way I could get 5 charges from the case would be to have the pods out, drain, charge in the case and remove as soon as at 100% etc and repeat. So either this is what Apple mean when they say you can get those n
... Number of charges (i.e. A lab test scenario rather than real world) or some pods do indeed have a problem and aren't shutting down when in the case.
i'm seeing this too, rapid battery discharge when not in use. it appears to be the pods discharging constantly.
first off let me state that it is normal for the pods to charge themselves while in case, that's even in the paper guide. they top off to 100% while in case.
so i did a test, i let case discharge to 0 then left pods in closed case and monitored pods before bed: 88%, and in morning: 53%. about 8 hours.
would not expect this amount of energy usage when inactive. my other point of reference are bluetooth Platronics which have a 10-hour lifespan and last about a week of gym use before charging.
My situation is much worse. I completely charged it in the morning and never used it. At the end of the evening, the box had 5% charge
I used mine last evening then put them back on the charger, topped them off to 100% then disconnected them. 12 hours later I checked and the AirPods were both at 100% and the case was at 98%. If I could ask, when you were through using them with your iPhone did you disconnect them on your phone?
I have this issue as well. Both my case and pods were charged to a 100% and today morning the case stands at 60%. The pods are both at 100% though. I had them in the case all night.
Same question: did you disconnect the AirPods from your device prior to putting them in the case.
I turn off bluetooth on my phone every night that saves a ton of battery on the watch as well. But prior to this thread I never disconnected (this would suck if we have to disconnect them every night) the pods nor checked the case battery level.
Last night, I turned down the connection when i came across your post but no luck so far
I did disconnect mine. Turning off BT to save battery on your Watch would indicate a problem with either your Watch or you iPhone. I would suspect the iPhone.
I gave up on this iPhone battery issue. Apple support seems to have no clue. My iPhone 7 has this hissing sound and all i have been getting is lame responses. So instead of cribbing i started living with it.
I so very excited for AirPods, need to figure out this battery drain problem. It would get really annoying if every product from apple(few in the lot) is weak on battery.
Also, After you take a call for 5 min. The battery goes down to 80%. Is this normal ? I was on a call 5 min ago ( In midst of our conversation here)
Yes, it will use battery faster when on a call as it is now having a two way signal. My PowerBeats 3 also bleed battery faster when on a call. But if they were at 100% that may be a tad fast.
I'd disagree with the support monkeys. I'm still gathering facts and evidence to bash them with before raising my case. They'll just be following a stock script as no one will have approved any other kind of response as it's been Christmas / New Years etc.
I've posted earlier saying that in 24 hrs I loose 50% case charge while the pods fluctuate between 95-100% charge. This implies they aren't shutting down when in the case.
So 50% over 24 hrs is approx 2% per hour drop. Which is high to me for something that should just be trickle charging.
I've charged them back up to 100% and unpaired them on the phone and case (forgetting this device on phone and holding the button on the case so both ends of the connection are reset) after 12 hrs I've only lost 2% off the case. So a loss of 0.16% per hour. Much more acceptable! Implying when unpaired the pods are shutting down in the case as there is no connection and they're just getting trickle charged. That's more what I'd expect to be normal.
