Same problem.
Not possible to make 5 full charges with the case (as Apple says)!
5 charges to bring the Airpods from 80% to 100% and the case drops to 5%!
Hope than Apple will find a solution.
Since the AirPods should be in sleep mode and should not be doing anything that would be a large power drain I would say less than 1% in an 8 hour period. In the scenario of the OP if I left that house for less than 2 days with the AirPods off the charger when I return they will be completely dead which is not good for any of the batteries.
What exactly are the AirPods doing that burn off 15% of their charge in an 8 hour period while they are not being used?
Very interesting... I can now say (Monday night, 8:30pm), after 3.5 days of not being charged (8am Friday is when they were unplugged) that the charge on my case has not changed since last night, 24 hours ago. It has been at 48% since yesterday (with AirPods still at 100% each). I have a feeling continually checking the charge of the case and AirPods, by opening the lid is where part of the issues could be for some people. I don't know when my case hit 50% charge, if it was day 1, day 2 or day 2.5, but I can say for certain that the charge of the case has not changed by a single percent in the past 24 hours (day 2.5 thru 3.5 of not being charged). I have no need to use my AirPods until work tomorrow morning, so I will let them sit again until then and will check to see if the charge has stayed the same.
Update: 100% battery charched for airpods and case, after 24h (never touch them) airpods 100% case 89%. Ok, acceptable!
Charched=charge
Sorry
I got spooked by the earlier part of this Battery thread ....and cancelled my order that was soon to ship. It might be possible that many are not familiar enough with how the Air Pods work with the charger and all are fine. Even so....with the extreme Apple delay/questions....the fact there are no replacement pods if you have a problem any time soon....and remembering my motto it is sometimes smart to let the first anything get the " kinks " out and buy the second version ? I was so excited to get them.....but will try to wait for more solid news and shipment quality.
The same problem here, after minimal use, battery case drain in 24 hours. back to apple?
First, there are replacement Air Pods. Apple has never not had replacements.
My Air Pod case has lasted more than 5 days on a single charge.

Just a few. Not all completely favorable. But not a single one complained about battery life, which is excellent so far for myself and everyone I know who has them.
No, yours is a different problem. If your case died in 24 hours, exchange them as soon as possible.
You have a different issue. You didn't mention over how long a period this was, but if you went through one full cycle in 24 hours, change yours as soon as possible. It's not going to be a "Here's a fix for you". Exchange them while you still can.
Picked up from store 11/24, case charged full at home, about 1 hour of playing music , when picked up today AirPods 25% left, case 5% left.
Yours are defective. Exchange them.
Genius appointment reserved. To be continued.... thks
I am trying something different, I have kept the charger/Airpods in a different place in the house from where I was keeping them before, specifically, away from my phone. They seem to be losing charge at a much more reasonable rate now. I am going to try a few more experiments and get more data; it would be interesting if it was proximity to the phone that was causing the problem, say something like the W1 chip begin aware of the phone's proximity and being "ready" to connect using power?
Anyway, nothing conclusive right now but they did not lose power at the same rate today as they have in the last few days when I had them within about 8 inches of my phone most of the time.
I think it's probable what you say
