iTunes wants always internet connection.

I am having a problem after Sierra 10.12.2 update.

When I am in Oflline, while listening to music library which is in local through iTunes, I get the following message as I jump from one music track to another.

"iTunes could not connect to the iTunes Store. The network down or unavailable.

Make sure your network connection is active and try again"

Can anyone an idea and solution to this issue?

This is completely unacceptable. I work in a facility where I am unable to connect to the internet, and now I can't even listen to my music while I'm here working, because iTunes is on autopilot. You must accommodate people in this situation. I have spent thousands of dollars on iTunes songs, not to mention the ten thousand dollar computer I'm working on, and in return I expect some level of autonomy. It needs to be fixed, plain and simple. I am inundated with tons of work, and I can't leave and go somewhere else tonight, and now I have to deal with this incredibly annoying error message and the bouncing app logo. What's the fix???

Hey Argonat!

I understand you have some questions about the network pop-up you're getting in iTunes. I'd be happy to help explain this.

Even if the music you're listening to is locally stored, iTunes is designed to attempt an internet search of the material - this way it can automatically generate any missing details, such as lyrics or album artwork. There are a few things you can disable to decrease the frequency of this pop-up, but ultimately you cannot prevent a current version of iTunes from trying to reach your available networks.

Open iTunes and navigate to iTunes (in the top menu bar) and select Preferences. Under the 'General' tab, turn off the "Automatically retrieve CD track names from the Internet" option. Under the 'Sharing' tab, make sure nothing is enabled. Under the 'Downloads' tab, make sure none of the sub-options are checked. Also make sure "Always check for available downloads" isn't checked. Next check the 'Store' tab, and make sure two bottom-most options aren't checked.

iTunes for Mac: Add artwork to songs and other items

As one final counter-measure, you can head to the 'Restrictions' tab and manually set iTunes to never scan Podcasts, iTunes Store, or Apple Music. Please note: if you reach a point where you reconnect your computer to a network and you want access to these features within iTunes again, you'll have to manually reverse the disabled settings.

Hopefully this information helps you to better utilize iTunes. Be sure to let me know if you run into any further trouble so we can keep working together. Cheers!

Apple's design interface has increasingly tended to be designed on the assumption people are always connected to the Internet with broadband, and have wireless available to them everywhere. This is not the ideal solution (and definitely not one you will get from anybody officially connected with Apple), and may not work if you have other things (mobile devices) dependent upon using the newest iTunes, but if you do not have those requirements you could always consider downgrading iTunes. This insistence upon a network connection is something I have only seen mention with any frequency in the latest versions of iTunes 12.

Hi Argonat I am having the same issues as well and its driving me insane. Every time I play a music file or a film it tries to link to the iTunes store. Have tried various solutions including the one in this post with no joy. If it is a fault with iTunes then Apple need to sort it ASAP. If I even play music and say write a document the iTunes logo keeps bouncing up from menu bar on the bottom of the screen. Have you solved it or are you like me and totally cheesed off with it.
