The apple tv "keyboard input" Notice keeps repeat for no reason

I have a new Apple TV 4th Gen running the latest TVOs update 10.1. When I get to a typing screen the "Keyboard Input" comes up properly on my phone. The problem is it also appears on my phone when the Apple TV is not in use, or even turned on. It just happens randomly. I don't even need to be in the same room and as I said, the Apple TV can be in off/sleep mode. It is very distracting. I have not been able to find anything here or other plces on the web so this does not seem to be a common problem. The phone is a 6s Plus with iOs 10.2, also the latest update.

Agree...I don't think that's the issue.

This recently started happening to me, and it occurs nearly simultaneously on my iPhone and my iPad, and quite frequently. Where as previously we had no issue with this feature and it would only pop-up during expected Apple TV Search or form field requests, this seemed to change when we recently reset our HomeKit setup & linked devices. But that makes little sense, and like others, does not explain how a sleep-state Apple TV is making requests for keyboard input.

Yet, that's what solved my problem! We have 2 Apple TV 4 units and both were set to HomeKit connection. Turning off one of them to connect to HomeKit has fixed the issue:

  • No more sporadic Apple TV keyboard requests on iPhone/iPad
  • We didn't have to turn off our iPhone/iPad's Apple TV notifications
  • We get the keyboard when we purposely make a search request on ATV 4
  • We still have our HomeKit remote access thru one of the Apple TV's

Now I know that probably doesn't help most here since you may not have 2+ Apple TV 4's and/or use HomeKit, but it certainly solved the issue for us after a week of constant notifications. Hope it does help someone and good luck!

I have the same issue. I enabled the keyboard input for my Apple TV on my iPhone SE when the feature was first made available last year (2016), and it was working fine. However, last week the keyboard input prompt started showing up on my iPhone several times a day at random intervals, even though the Apple TV is in sleep mode. It's most annoying when it happens in the middle of the night, as I have my phone on my nightstand and the vibration is waking me up. For now I've turned off the Notification on my iPhone, and I'll wait a while and see if a fix is pushed out.

How I Resolved. I haven't had any issues with Apple Keyboard Input notification popping up on my iPhone since.

Go into your AppleTV under

Settings/

Remotes and Devices/

Remote App and Devices

Then select your iPhone from the list of Paired Devices and select Unpair Device.

If you want to pair your iPhone with the AppleTV again, just send a photo via AirPlay to that AppleTV and then follow the onscreen instructions.

So basically, Band-aid the problem.

Turning off notifications does not solve the problem. The notification goes off 24 hours a day even when AppleTv is not in use.

Turning off notifications would stop the notifications if you did it properly.

It may not be the only thing you don't do properly though, my guess is the notification is likely a result of a problem with your network. The Apple TV is possibly being woken up, then because it's unable to get a proper connection it prompts you to sign into your account, which then causes the notification.

I just purchased the new AppleTV a few weeks ago and I have the same issue on my iPhone. If Apple is trying to troubleshoot this issue, I do remember that I was at a search screen on AppleTV and it popped up on my iPhone but then I powered down the AppleTV for the night. I thought perhaps it was related to those sequence of events and because the AppleTV was requesting input at the time.

I have followed the recommendation and have turned off notifications on my Lock Screen to remove the most annoying prompts but that is a workaround and not a proper fix to the issue. iOS 10.3.3 / AppleTV tvOS 10.2.2

Actually Bluetooth has nothing to do with it. My phone never connected to the Apple TV via BT. When I went through that part of the setup process the Apple TV never showed up on the Bluetooth menu of my iPhone as an option and I had to connect manually, and there still is no BT connection between them.

In any event, in order to just stop the most annoying aspects I went into the iPhone notification settings and for Apple TV I turned off the ability to appear on the lock screen and to make sounds. I left the ability to send notice and appear in the notification center. The result is that the problem stopped. The notification center is clear. But I'm no tmarking this as solved because who knows what the heck happened.
