If your left or right AirPod stops working

Yesterday, I listened to a podcast with only my right AirPod. The left AirPod was in the case. I then charged both AirPods overnight.

This morning, the left AirPod refuses to work: no audio, no chime when inserted, and no Siri when double tapping. The right AirPod works fine.

I tried rebooting my iPhone, disconnecting and reconnecting the AirPods, and toggling on/off Automatic Ear detection in settings. Nothing has worked. I've used my AirPods for several days and this is the first problem that I have had.

Any suggestions?

UPDATE: I was able to fix my problem by disconnecting the AirPods from my iPhone ("forget this device" in settings) then reconnecting. But in reconnecting the AirPods you have to keep pressing and holding the Bluetooth setup button on the back of the case until the status light flashes amber a few times and then finally flashes white.
It must flush amber first to fix the problem.

i tried all the disconnecting/re-connecting, but still my left airpod was not working (in either ear). having checked that my 1-year warranty ran out 2 days ago..... i then resorted to my final attempt - cleaning. i'd previously wiped the airpods, and didn't have the seemingly recommended solution of cotton buds to hand, so this time tried an old toothbrush - very carefully. id not noticed before, but the little black hole sort of towards the top of the airpod had got gunked up with wax. the hairs on the toothbrush (make sure you dispose of it afterwards ...) are quite adept at getting the wax out, rather than smearing it around, as cloths seem to. i cleaned this hole out, and heh presto, without needing to re-connect, worked first time. a little tlc seems to go a long way

I had this problem too, I was considering going to the nearby Apple shop for them to solve my issue.

I had tried everything, disconnecting and reconnecting my AirPods, leaving them out of the case for a little bit. I had even restarted my phone.

However it didn't work until I disconnected from my AirPods, restarted my phone and then connected to my AirPods did I hear the signal when you put the AirPods into your ears.

I hope this helps you 🙂

This might be a very, very late suggestion. But I might have figured out to fix the constant left/right AirPod disconnects.

Just return both pods back to the case. Then get the non-working side first and put it in your ear. Test to see if the sound finally comes back. Then follow with the other side. 😉 In a way, this forces your phone to use previously non working side. No need with the hassle of resetting the connection

Hey Y’all -

I just had the same problem. Right AirPod was not charging, responding, anything. It just seemed entirely dead - and it was out of battery, but it wasn’t charging. Left airpod was still working like a charm.

My solution was to get someone else’s case - I just dropped it into my friend’s airpod case and it kicked back into gear. I left it in for a minute while it charged and then switched it into my case, which, to my surprise, charged it. Everything’s back to normal.

I looked at the earlier responses and found that my case, no matter how long I held the button for, didn’t ever flash amber.

Hope this helped solve your problem,

WML
