If your left or right AirPod stops working

Yesterday, I listened to a podcast with only my right AirPod. The left AirPod was in the case. I then charged both AirPods overnight.

This morning, the left AirPod refuses to work: no audio, no chime when inserted, and no Siri when double tapping. The right AirPod works fine.

I tried rebooting my iPhone, disconnecting and reconnecting the AirPods, and toggling on/off Automatic Ear detection in settings. Nothing has worked. I've used my AirPods for several days and this is the first problem that I have had.

Any suggestions?

Same problem for me. Also I'm unable to reset the airpods. I can press the button as long as I like, it never flashes amber, just white.

And in normal mode if flashes green as soon as the not working airpod is inserted.

case also discharges quite quickly.

Okay I had the same problem and I was so mad but I just figured it out on my own. Seems like no one else has done this yet. So connect your AirPods and go to Bluetooth. There is a little blue i with a circle around it to the right of (your name)AirPods. Click on that and go to the bottom and it should say right and left AirPods. For each one choose what you want the double tap to be. I chose left ear to be Siri and it fixed the problem and decided to change the track with right ear. Tell me how it works for you.

Same deal So my left AirPod stopped working, it's the oddest thing. And I've tried everything in the other threads. But here's where it gets interesting: when I put them in the wrong ears, left pod in right ear and right pod in left year... I get full stereo and they both work. Take them out and place them in each correct ear and the left pod refuses to work. Unfortunately, your suggestion of turning them upside down didn't work for me, left pod in right ear didn't work. Flip them back and they work. Maybe my head's not screwed on straight... the AirPod equivalent of not holding the phone right I guess.

lol...to me it's not odd at all! I thought I was going crazy when it first started happening. But then it happened again. I will say that mine work properly now, although often I have to adjust the left one slightly. But thats a different problem. Twice they stopped working completely. Thats when I tried flipping them to my other ear to know for sure...and more than likely it's my ears that are unusual hahahah. I have small ear canals for a grown man I think, every ear device I use has to be the smallest size. I think I am going to look in to some of the accessories available now. There are a lot more than when they first came out, I would like to get something that would hold them into my ears a little better although I never lost them and they feel comfortable in my ears this is not exactly an inexpensive item I don't want them to fall out while I'm working I work outside. Having said all that I love them! Yes battery life is an issue if you use them a lot...and this left ear thing...but the Apple Store has been awesome they replaced the left AirPod and then the case for free...after the case was changed I have not had a problem. At the time the gentleman and ladies in the Store even had a hard time getting them..they were very honest about not being sure what the problem was. I still prefer them as my go-to default earbuds now that my Jaybirds have broken...again..I used those for music stuff and whenever I needed long battery life....and when I wanted the world to go away lol...they were like 2 suction cups over my ears, and that's another good feature of the Air-Pods...the hear-thru ability is good..vital if working outdoors...ciao

Had to go to Genius Bar. Genius stumped, didn’t see anything about this issue in their knowledge management system. Replaced the left earbud only, I kept my original right and power pod. Haven’t had an issue since. Genius was surprised that I got full stereo when pods reversed. So good to go. I was still within warranty period.

I have a similar problem, the volume in my AirPods is less than half at full volume. The only way I can get decent volume is to rotate the stems so they are parallel to the ground instead of perpendicular. Of course they are about 3 weeks past the one year warranty, so apple will not do anything for me, except to offer to replace the buds for something like 59 dollars each... Might as well buy new ones.... except I would never, knowing now that these only last about one year... Guess I know why they do not offer apple care extended warranty on this product.

I had this problem too, I was considering going to the nearby Apple shop for them to solve my issue.

I had tried everything, disconnecting and reconnecting my AirPods, leaving them out of the case for a little bit. I had even restarted my phone.

However it didn't work until I disconnected from my AirPods, restarted my phone and then connected to my AirPods did I hear the signal when you put the AirPods into your ears.

I hope this helps you 🙂

so this happened to me also and i never had a amber color show up on my airpods and i was scared that they were broken and also very ****** off because i just bought my air pods for christmas of 2017 and i did exactly what you guys said and it didn’t work, but after about 10 tries it worked, so to anyone who it didn’t work the first couple times, keep doing it until it does work.!

i tried all the disconnecting/re-connecting, but still my left airpod was not working (in either ear). having checked that my 1-year warranty ran out 2 days ago..... i then resorted to my final attempt - cleaning. i'd previously wiped the airpods, and didn't have the seemingly recommended solution of cotton buds to hand, so this time tried an old toothbrush - very carefully. id not noticed before, but the little black hole sort of towards the top of the airpod had got gunked up with wax. the hairs on the toothbrush (make sure you dispose of it afterwards ...) are quite adept at getting the wax out, rather than smearing it around, as cloths seem to. i cleaned this hole out, and heh presto, without needing to re-connect, worked first time. a little tlc seems to go a long way

This might be a very, very late suggestion. But I might have figured out to fix the constant left/right AirPod disconnects.

Just return both pods back to the case. Then get the non-working side first and put it in your ear. Test to see if the sound finally comes back. Then follow with the other side. 😉 In a way, this forces your phone to use previously non working side. No need with the hassle of resetting the connection
