Why is the Apple Pencil skipping and how can I fix this?

Prior to iOS 11 the pencil was working fine (with the 3-finger-tap-to-zoom enabled, but not necessarily actually zoomed) but now there is a definite correlation between this feature being turned on and my Apple Pencil skipping. I'll look to file a bug report with some evidence attached :-)
I have received a response from my Apple bug report indicating it is a "duplicate" - which I guess means Apple engineers know about the issue already :-)
Someone replies here that turning off screen zoom fixed the Apple Pencil skipping issues.
