Magsafe 2 to USB C converter

Will Apple be making a Magsafe 2 to USB C converter? Is anyone aware of a third-party option?

I recently got a Macbook Pro 15" (late 2016) and am furious at the extra expense of adapters needed to incorporate this machine into my setup (USB to USB-C, USB-C Digital AV multiport, HDMI cables, USB hub...). Now I need a second power adapter, and given that I have several Magsafe power adapters lying around I'd prefer to use a converter stead of buying a new USB-C power adapter.

It's sneaky of Apple to not include needed adapters with the machine. What should have been a pleasant quick-start has become a nightmare of unexpected purchasing and stalled setup.

Not quite, though it's interesting to know about new magsafe adapter options. I'm seeking a converter that would allow use of my existing magsafe adapters on my new Macbook Pro which only has USB-C ports.

And here is the newegg sole review:

Unfortunately the MagSafe side of the box doesn’t make a reliable connection with my MagSafe plug. The whole thing is not well constructed, such that the connector wiggles inside its case, and the slightest touch breaks the electrical connection. Unusable.

I'm willing to trust this review since I also bought a much more trustworthy, albeit different, magsafe connector for USB-C, the Griffin BreakSafe USB-C cable. https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA2C141K5202and I can attest that even with this, much better constructed cable, the connection is not good and you get breaks in electrical connection at the slightest movement of the laptop.

Done. Feedback submitted:

I've been thinking about replacing my 2013 macbook pro with a new one. The cost is alot to consider. Having to add replacement power adapters along with all the other adapters needed to maintain the same connectivity I have today via USB-C pushes the cost too high. I'll stick with my 2013 macbook pro.

When will Apple provide:

1) a magsafe 2 to usb-c adapter?, or

2) credit when purchasing a new macbook pro towards 1 adapter: 65W power, USB-A/B, thunderbolt 2, or any other one thing to ease the financial blow of a new macbook pro rendering all previous apple adapters useless?

you might be level 4, but you haven't read very well on this one, as this adapter also has disconnection issues. Why apple didn't continue the use of mag-safe connections is just beyond me. I spent 2900$ on a 3.1 GHZ 1TB 2016 Macbook Pro, and have the same complaint. Its stupidly easy to use a usb-c and accidentally pull the laptop on the floor; especially with kids around. You'd think Apple would use a little more thought in their adapter, and design it so there was a mag-safe connection. On the adapters I agree - its really frustrating to have to spend $$ on cables. My cure- buy an OWC.com USB-C Thunderbolt 3 dock at 300.00 for the various adapters + Thunderbolt 3, as it allows me to use everything I'v bought through the years for my various apple products. Its just expensive, but then Apple thinks we're all made out on money right??

I walked into the Apple Store in the Natick Mall in MA today looking for a Magsafe 2 to USB converter, only to be told be multiple employees that it does not exist and Apple does not plan to make one.

.

As a consumer, to find out there is absolutely no way to charge my new MacBook Neo using my old MacBook Retina charger is absolutely unacceptable and unprofessional. I do not know if the employees at the Natick Mall (or Apple stores in general) are forbidden from telling customers to buy an adapter when they can coerce them into buying a USB charger for $90. But if this converter really doesn't exist (and Apple refuses to let 3rd parties develop one), I may to return my MacBook Neo and file a complaint with Apple under the Better Business Bureau.

.

Yeah, I'm that furious about this. I absolutely refuse to spend $90 to replace something I already have and should be able to use with a basic adapter.
