Metal shavings stuck to Airpods case

User uploaded fileThis is a constant problem, I will clean the shavings off best I can however because of the lip/ design of the lid and case you can never get rid of them all. Could I use a stronger magnet to remove the shavings and if I do will that effect any of the permanent magnets, effect antenna, W1 Chip...

within the device?

Q-tips and cloths are current choice... however this again doesn't work the best.

The absolute best way to clean this off perfectly is scotch tape. Place the tape over the case magnet areas that have the metal shavings stuck on them and using a mechanical pencil with the lead retracted so you are using the plastic tip to push the scotch tape directly on to the areas with the metal shavings stuck on them. Let it sit on there for 30 seconds or so and then slowly remove the scotch tape. Viola! This works because the strength of the tape is stronger than the magnet.

FYI if the metal shavings make there way into the charger area on the airpod case it could very well short out the airpods or the charger case. I would try to keep the internal case as clean as possible.

I just went through the Genius Bar process for the same issue (metal shavings collecting in the case). They Genius was going to replace them but they didn’t have a topic in their issues selection for this so they had to escalate it through two levels of engineering. The Apple engineers decided from pictures alone that it couldn’t be metal from the product itself. They assert that if it were from the hinges the shavings / parts would be larger somehow. They told me my option is to keep it clean and “deal with it” basically, no replacement.

I think your right, i've talked to many people and they all say the same thing. My theory is that it might be the magnets inside braking down from letting it snap shut to hard and repeated openings and closings. This might not be the case for all of them but for the people that don't work around metals try cleaning them up and be more genital when you close it and see if that stops them from returning.
