Macbook won't wake from sleep since installing Sierra

Hi all,

I saw here some old posts connected to this problem, but I didn't found any working solution.

I updated to Sierra like 5 month ago, and since then have wake up problems. At beginning it was sporadically, but few weeks ago it started to be constant "sleep-no_wake" pattern. I did all SMC/ NVRAM/ resets, I setup "no sleep on power", I cleaned all external stuff with kextstat | grep -v com.apple command.

On top of that, sometimes it restarts automatically, it happens just after finally I made it start (by persisting play with SMC reset combined with "power up" button") or almost every night around 4am (even if I switched off automatic updates).

And finally I reinstall with totally fresh sierra from scratch - no additional software... and no change.

I've got external disc and install sierra on them to see if this is hardware or software problem ... and again - no change.

My last resort is to check with yosemite(it was original system on my macbook pro late 2015) and I will do that.

But meantime - if any of you have any suggestions, is there any other magic trick - please share!

MacBook Pro with Retina display, macOS Sierra (10.12)

I had the exact same symptoms on my MBP 15-inch mid 2015 and found that disabling Power Nap solved the problem.

Interestingly enough, this was only after many phone calls with Apple Support who requested that I bring my MBP to the local Apple Store where they ran a comprehensive diagnostic. I was told the machine failed the hardware test (although I hadn't witnessed any other odd behavior) and they replaced the logic board. While the machine was being repaired, I saw the following Apple Support document (published August 11, 2017): If your MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2015) won't wake from sleep - Apple Support

Reading between the lines, I suspect Apple is aware of the issue for this specific machine, in any case, but doesn't have a solution other than the workaround of disabling Power Nap suggested in the above article. This doesn't explain if it is related to hibernation, Time Machine activity or other. I do use a 4th generation Time Capsule, but I have other Macs running Sierra set up with Power Nap that backup to my TC and they don't have the black screen on wake issue described here. Perhaps it is hardware related for the MPB 15" mid 2015 model.

Very strange but I wanted to add to this thread since someone may discover the interaction(s) that are at the heart of this issue.
