iPhone 6 battery drain ios 10.2 problem

Like a lot of people, my iphone 6 was fine until Dec 2016 when I updated my ios. I began getting the 30% battery shut down. Then in Jan 2017 after updating my ios again, it began draining fast. Whereas I normally would have about 85% after getting home from work, now I'm below 50% by lunchtime. This is with my phone basically in my pocket with everything shut off (push, refreshes, notifications, etc.).

I talked with Apple support. They diagnosed my battery as being fine. Told me to do a clean reset and set up my phone as a new phone. I wiped the phone using WiFi and it still had the problem. I then wiped it out again using itunes and after setting it up as a new phone still had the same drain problem.

I've followed every suggestion from Apple links about battery tips. Everything is turned off. Nothing has fixed the problem. Forced to use a battery case now. Only thing left is to replace the battery, but Apple says the battery is fine so how would that fix anything...obviously it's a ios code glitch.

Do I pay $100 for a new battery (that prob won't fix the issue) or wait for another ios update to fix the issue?

I had the same issue on my iPhone 6 and had a Moshie Battery pack. Mine started with I updated it to version 10.1 or maybe ios10. I waited till 10.2 to see if it was fixed but to no avail. My phone is out of warranty and battery was fine according to Apple and changing battery is not a guarantee the problem will be fixed for an additional cost of $99. I ended up trading in my phone and getting Apple gift card for it. I switched to another telecom company before trading my old device after my contract expired so I got a iPhone 6S and they had promo so when i calculate it, I almost got the phone for free.

I just came from Apple support and was told my battery is working fine and to charge for 8 hours and see what happens. They wouldn't replace the battery and suggested I go somewhere else to replace the battery because my battery showed working 100%. While at the Apple store my phone went from 73% to 35% in 15 minutes. I did a reset and didn't do a restore - started from scratch and that didn't help. How long have you had the new battery? Does it seem to be holding a charge for longer than 15 minutes? Thanks for any info you can provide - so frustrating!

Apple did a diagnostic over the phone and said the battery was defective and needed replacing. I have an appointment at the Apple Store later this week. Unfortunately, I will not be able to answer your questions until after my appointment. I hope to get some answers from them and will post whatever I find out. I did notice that a battery error message showed up as a header in the Settings section under Battery (just above the usage section). You might check to see if you have the same message. I can't really say every case is the same, but it appears from all of the posts that there are a few people having similar issues. Stay tuned and good luck.

I've had the new one for about a week and it's working fine so far, no issues. Even before I had it replaced it was still holding battery for the right amount of time, just wouldn't show me the actual % I had remaining. Got tired of trying to figure out what was wrong so just paid to have it fixed to be done with it basically and luckily that fixed it.

I will post as soon as I find something out. My phone did the same thing, jumped from 87% charged to 30% within an hour. At one time I kept it on and running an entire day and the battery charge indicator stayed at 100% the entire day and did not change with use. Also, when my indicator showed 6% charge and then, when I went to charge it, the indicator jumped to 40%, so maybe it was not really at 6%. Who knows? Apple Support did seem to indicate a linkage problem between the actual battery charge and the indicator. If so, it might be more of a software issue which would explain why your battery is showing that is fine after the diagnostic. Based on what other have said, I am also thinking it is an iOS problem, because all of these issues happened to everyone after the upgrades. So I will ask when I get to the Apple Store.

Just saying this appears to be a trend when coming closer to time of new device release. Devices from a few generations back get an update and voila all of a sudden issues start to arise. The solution to the problems - upgrade to a new device.

Is kind of sad - have loved Mac for decades - am a Mac/Unix Administrator and am starting to seriously consider a phone like the OnePlus.

UPDATE (see my previous posts):

So I kept my appointment with the Apple store and fully expected them to tell me the battery on my iPhone 6 had reached the end of its life and that I needed to replace it. After all, a "your battery may need servicing" warning appears under the settings and battery tab. They performed a diagnostics and showed me the results which indicated that my battery was perfectly fine. They told me that the problems I was having was due to a "software issue". They tried, really hard, to sell me a new iPhone 7 and said if I did that, I would have a brand new phone and "no more issues". Sad to say, I have to agree with with others in this community that this is purposeful glitch on the part of Apple, to get iPhone users to upgrade to the newly-released phones. I was totally dejected as my phone is now finally paid-off and I had hoped to reduce my monthly payments for as long as possible. Just like you finally pay-off your car and a salesperson is telling you to buy a new one and incur more monthly charges, just so you have no more problems with repairs. When I returned home, I upgraded to the new iOS 10.3, hoping that this would have a fix for the issue. It does not. Within 24 hours, I was back to having the same issues as before. Sad.

The apple employee wrote a letter for me saying that the issues comes from the software and they haven't found the solution yet. I used that letter to my carrier to replace my phone, with a another 6 though . Nevertheless the new one is running 10.1 and from what I 've heard the issue started happening on the 10.2. At least it did happen to me. Using the 10.1 I dont have any issue with the battery so far BUT as I mentioned to another post, I started considering to change the phone with a OnePlus. Its just hard to sell the 6 in a good price.

I went to the Apple store twice for them to only suggest I purchase a new phone. They indicated my battery was good and they would not replace the battery. Apple reset my phone and told me to manually re-install all apps, etc. I did that and the battery was still draining. I noticed that the "mail" app was showing 2.5+ hours background - which was causing the battery drain. I finally went to "UBREAKIFIX" and they were fantastic. They replaced my battery, which they indicated was defective. They weren't sure what the problem was so they called around to their colleagues to see if they had an answer to the problem and they did! They found out that the "firmware" was corrupt (which is a second layer of software) that Apple won't/doesn't address when you go into the store for assistance. Apparently when downloading the new 10.2 it corrupted the mail app and a few other apps which caused the battery to drain. They backed up my phone and reinstalled firmware and my apps and it has been one week and I can go 2 - 3 days and my battery only goes as low at 80%!!!!!! Don't buy a new phone - find someone that can address the firmware issue. I didn't understand it completely but all I can say is UBREAKIFIX solved the problem and I would recommend them to anyone!

Thanks for your update and the great information you provided. I found a UBREAKIFIX store, but it is about 65 miles from where I live. If the situation gets any worse, I will have no choice but to make the trip. Glad to hear you are now problem free and did not have to purchase a new phone. Since my phone is already paid for, I am hoping I can hold out at least until the release of the iPhone 8. Meanwhile, I will investigate other brands, but I fear I will lose the syncing capabilities I now enjoy between my 3 Apple products. I just need to gain a comfort level that if I switch to another brand, I would not be losing too much in the way of convenience.

So, wow! I felt totally lucky that I wasn't experiencing the same issues so many people were experiencing with their iPhone 6's (not 6S). I thought, especially after the Apple acknowledgment of the issue in February, this whole debacle would be put to rest. That was, until I just downloaded the new iOS 10.3.2 update this weekend (Memorial Weekend), a fairly stupid assumption. I have now had nothing but all these same battery issues everyone else was/is having. Unplugged my phone at 100% charge right before leaving for work at 8:15am, and by 10:07am and only one text from and to my boss, down to 32% (less than 2 hours and battery charge plummeted). I'm currently plugged back in, no apps in the background are running, and I have already started my perilous descent into "iOS Crappy Batteryville - The Experience." I have prepared and will be armed with 6 articles (one very detailed write-up from Fortune Magazine, several others from tech to global documentation of this issue) and printing the 3+ pages of "community" commentary on these issues, save for various friends' emails and texts/messages about THEIR exact issue with this battery drain problem (even if it's a waste of paper and Apple simply takes my phone without hesitation and fixes it - I will be prepared for an argument, if it comes down to it). With that, the issue, as of this date, is ongoing. I very highly recommend that anyone with this battery drain issue, go straight to your local Apple Store and at least be armed with two specific articles: the 01/25/2017 article in/on Fortune by John Roberts, and the 02/24/2017 article on InvestorPlace by Brad Moon.

I'm having the same issue as of about a week ago. My phone will be charged above 80% when I go to bed and I'll wake up with a dead phone! It's really great for missing alarms and being late to work, let me tell ya. I'm also facing internet/data issues. All of my "bars" will disappear and I'll see "Searching..." in the top left corner. This happens many times a day in locations where I am fully confident that there is internet/data access because I've used my phone in these locations for the last year 😉

Let us know how your trip to the Apple store goes. It's bologna that they would recommend you to buy a new phone (since it's their buggy update that is ruining my 1 year old phone).
