Can't add google account in Sierra

I am having trouble adding a google account in my freshly installed Sierra.

I just had to format and install OS again in my MacBook Air today, and it worked well until I tried to add my Google account in Preferences. I type my e-mail and password and get a blank screen, with only a "cancel" option. It just gets blank for no reason and I get stuck since I only can cancel and the account is not added.

Tried searching Apple communities but the similar issues were old and the solutions weren't useful since there is nothing about google or gmail in my keychains so there is nothing to delete or change.

Any help, please?

You must have high network speed & in your screen shot as shown are you using google drive ? try to disable google drive .

To , add accounts , open mail > add accounts > check the box of google and click on continue .

A window appears , fill up your email address click on next and follow the upcoming steps .

Solved. I believe this was the issue: I had recently installed Sierra but somehow the computer didn't reboot so the installation was only halfway. I rebooted my mac, after that everything worked just fine (meaning: system preferences accepted google password with no complain)

I'm having the same problem adding my gmail account to Mail and Calendar. I followed your suggestion to add the acount using "other" and not the Google account option when selecting the type of account. It worked for Mail, but didn't provide the option of adding my calendar to the connection, just offered mail and notes. So I tried adding the "other" account from within the Calendar app and it wouldn't accept the same google address and pw I used for mail.

Although you already found the solution, I just want to share another alternative.

When adding a google account On your mac, just quit the google desktop app beforehand.

It’s easier and it does work for me all the time.

I am just facing this problem, I found that in the past Macmail stores a imap password in the keychain with the "@ blue icon" imap.xxx@gmail.com (or the corresponding g suite domain) but it doesnt do that anymore. Could it be tryng to write that file unsuccessfully without an explicit error?

Same problem, erased both my Google Accounts because it kept asking me for a password everyday, when I tried to add them fresh new, all I get is a blank screen.
