Cannot update browser or OSX 10.8.5

I have a 2007 mac desktop with OSX 10.8.5 which I am told is not supported by Mac any longer. I am told that Safari is no longer any good, that I have to find another browser, but I have the same response with Firefox & Google Chrome. They are telling me I need to update my OSX but Mac will not let me download Sierra. I don't know what to do, my Mac is still performing well and its still doing the job for me. What am I supposed to do ….replace my computer ?

Its still working fine except for the messages, and very soon I will not have a browser at all.

does anybody have any ideas

Firefox ESR 45.7 for OS X 10.6.8 - 10.8.5 here.

https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/organizations/faq/

Ignore all of the enterprise, organisation and education info.

This version of Firefox will continue support for 10.6-10.8 until sometime in April 2017, but should still be able to use this for sometime after this period.

At least this browser is a LOT more up to date than the 10.8 version of Safari.

I am forced to stay with OS X 10.8.5 Mountain Lion AND 10.9.5 Mavericks.

I am running the Firefox ESR on both my 10.6.8 and 10.8.5 systems.

Good Luck!

I forget about this web browser for OS X 10.8.5.

For OS X 10.8.5 and up users ONLY look at the web browser

Waterfox.

The recent version ( more current 51.x vers.) is still compatible for OS X 10.8.5 Mountain Lion use.

Again, check that your Mozilla plugins and extensions are still compatible.

Sorry, I, temporarily, forgot about Waterfox,

Check it out, if you wish.

I would most strongly recommend you change your browser to Waterfox, and cease using Safari. Safari 6.2.8 is unfortunately deprecated on some websites now, particularly online banking. Waterfox is a fully capable, currently supported browser that is fully compatible with Mountain Lion. There is no reason to upgrade at all unless you actually need the latest features. Also, you should check whether your applications needed for work (and leisure) will work with any upgrade, should you decide to upgrade. I suggest that you need not do anything other than use an up to date browser. You certainly do not need a new computer, that is a fact. I hope this is of assistance.

Waterfox is an exact clone of Firefox, settings, bookmarks, extensions, plugins, all the functionally, everything migrates from your Firefox install. The current version of Waterfox is 51.0.1 the same version for Firefox. Waterfox is 64 bit, I think it is even faster than Firefox. It updates the same as Firefox. New Waterfox updates kept crashing in previous versions, but the new updates now install quite smoothly. I use Safari 6.2.8 occasionally when Waterfox won't connect to a certain site but that is rare. Their support forum is somewhat slow in response, but, in my experience as a somewhat non technical person, Waterfox performs in an excellent fashion.
