I cannot hear calls through the airpods

I've had the same problem for a while. I can fix it temporarily by unpairing the Airpods, and re-pairing them. But the problem comes back. I'm on a 7 Plus and Watch Classic (original).

I suspect, the issue is in the AirPod hand-off mechanism and not BTLE.
Yes, that's a workaround that works for me also. I have a call with Apple tier 2 support in a few days; may get more information then.
Latest beta 3 on iOS and watch seems to fix the issue, at least for a couple of calls.
