iPhone randomly starts playing music

At least once per day, my iPhone 6 randomly starts playing music even when no music apps are active. This is very disruptive. No headphones are attached, but I do have an iWatch that communicates with the iPhone. I believe the culprit is Pandora. Any advice would be much appreciated.

iPhone 6, iOS 8.1.1

[SOLVED]

In my case, it was a blue tooth Speaker that, when I would turn off ( because it was paired with the phone ) would trigger a song to be played (oddly enough it was always the same U2 Song )

The solution was simple, just unpair that device ( you will definitely have some paired devices ).

It has been 4 Weeks with no "autoplay" from the iPhone.

V.

If you by any chance just updated your device, then we figured out that Apple prepackaged some music into the update, that loads into your music app. For us it was U2 and we deleted the playlist, which stopped anything from playing automatically. If you have any music on your iPhone\iPad, you can stop this functionality unfortunately.

If you have headphones plugged int, then take them out to see if it stops happening.

Hello brenden dv

The response was not helpful and the problem continues to stretch into the year 2018 and all the way into iOS 11.2.2. Can anyone from the "Community Specialists" provide any more feedback to this issue? What kind of information has been gathered in the time gap of the original post up until today?

Anything? Please share.

My iPhone randomly plays the music from the music app. Not Pandora. I don't have the watch. No Bluetooth. The music is not even downloaded... it keeps streaming from the cloud, consuming data ever time.

Any updates would be nice and certainly helpful to new people that feel disparaged from seeing threads like this one.

I have badly experienced it in the middle of last night. My iPhone turned on playing music from my Apple Music via JBL bluetooth soundbar speakers (which wasn't even activated that moment on my iPhone but paired in memory) and sound was at maximum level. When I (asleep) tried to turn volume down from my iPhone side buttons, it's then back to maximum. It was looked like someone else had control on my iPhone. When I turned Apple Music off, music was still playing on bluetooth speakers. Then I turned off speakers. In a minute everything repeated. Finally I turned off Bluetooth on my iPhone and it's stopped. Lately in the night my TV turned on because someone tried to connect my Apple TV outside from my home network (AirPlay was available for outside home network with a pass). I don't know if these two cases are connected to each other, but looks strange. Any new weakness on iOS?

You are right on! Oh I soooo wish I could get off the Apple treadmill, these issues are absolute BS. I have the issue of music and Siri (aka big brother Apple) playing ramdomly, I don’t have Pandora. Usually happens when ear buds are plugged in, Apples or otherwise. There has got to be a solution to this, it’s annoying enough when I’m just driving or by myself but ridiculous when in a meeting or on the phone with someone.

Hello Harry,

Thanks for that info and choosing the Apple Support Communities. Based on what you stated, it seems you are having issues with music playing unexpectedly. Since you mention the Pandora app maybe causing this issue, please force close the Pandora app and then restart your iPhone as the shut down and start up process is important to keep the iOS software running properly.

Force an app to close on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
Restart your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

Cheers!

This happens to me too, it stared when I was on holiday, abroad, and it’s annoying because I do try to turn my phone off and on, but it still does this, I do have an Apple Watch, and it first started when I was wearing it, also Siri comes up randomly. I hope apple sorts this otherwise I will have to ask for a new phone for my birthday. I’m not pleased.

Yes the same has happened to me and it’s very annoying. When my phone is in my pocket or just randomly in my hand, my music from my iTunes starts to play. And yes, my earphones are in when this happens. It’s very annoying because if I’m trying to watch videos, it disturbs it. Also siri has been starting uncontrollably in addition to this problem. This problem started around a few days ago and I don’t know how to fix It. I currently have an iPhone 5s.

Lucky for me, I figured it out myself, but it a someone else problem. He somehow managed to unintentionally buy music from iTunes, and ever since then, every time he put his phone down.... he somehow managed to hit the play\pause button on the white cord of his ear buds. The user thought it was magic, because, like many other iPhone users, they don't know what the devices are capable of. He keeps the white ear buds plugged in all the time (that was my first hint.

The most aggravating thing to him and me, was that you can't disassociate the music from playing! You can't go to settings and turn that functionality off! PLEASE APPLE.... PLEASE stop forcing "features" onto all of us without a back-out option!!!!!

The purchased songs were not even downloaded, they were on the cloud. Found a way to delete the "play list" and it stopped happening. Just like the battery\performance slowdown "feature" to save your battery life! They should but an option under settings\battery "to turn "performance throttling" off

But that wont force you to buy new batteries or new phones from them now, will it?

Hope I helped a Smidge.User uploaded file

Have been having music from my library on my iPad Air start playing randomly as well as Siri starting up uninvited for a couple of months, but it’s gotten progressively worse with each update. Happens several times a day. Interesting to read this has been going on quite awhile with equally random results in attempts to stop this. I have removed Pandora, Bluetooth turned off, Siri turned off, etc, etc, no help. This is my husbands Ipad, and he does have the apple earbuds plugged in most of the time. Getting him to remove them is not an option. So far, I haven’t had this issue on my iPad Air Pro or our phones. This is now February 2018 and I’m wondering what it will take to get this bug fixed. It’s not rendering the Ipad unusable, but it’s a real annoyance to have to stop and manually close out music and Siri each time. Hoping someone will come up with a fix.

Sakina1234, this is exactly what we’ve seen experimenting with solutions for stopping the music and Siri. It’s only happening when the earbuds are plugged in, but more specifically, only the Apple earbuds and not another brand we have. Also, we’re not connecting wirelessly, only directly plugging into the jack, so no Bluetooth Connection. Time will tell if this will continue to make a difference.
