iTunes 12.6.0.95 mini player

The latest version of iTunes (12.6.0.95) installed last night and now my mini-player doesn't show the small album artwork like it used to. I can still do Show MiniPlayer Large Artwork. I like having the small artwork in the mini-player, can I get back to that view?

Wouldn't it be nice if Apple actually TOLD us what they were changing? The large artwork is fine but I would have liked a heads up that the small artwork was removed and that the mini play isn't as "mini" as it used to be. I thought I had a bad download until I checked this forum. Typical of Apple to change things and not tell anyone.

The strangest thing just happened. I was listening to Radio Paradise using the mini player and iTunes suddenly quit. I checked the App Store and an update to iTunes was installing. It is 12.6.0.100. I hoped this was a reaction to the problems with the mini player. No such luck. It is still the same with no small artwork and the bug where the close button disappears. What other problem were they fixing? Since March 21, there have been three updates. What is up?

Here's the fix if you want to get the last version of iTunes back for OSX so you can see those pretty little small album pics:

1. Trash iTunes 12.6: Command/i on the app to bring up app info; click on the lock in the lower right corner of the panel; this will bring up a panel that says: "Finder wants to make changes..."; type in your password and click on OK.; click on "everyone" in the lower panel and change the Privilege to Read and Write. Close the panel and trash iTunes. Enter time Machine and replace your Music file (should be listed in your User file) from a day or two before you downloaded iTunes 12.6. This will take awhile depending on how many files are in the folder. Go back into Time Machines a restore the iTunes app you had prior to the 12.6 version. This worked for me. Good luck.

I seriously don't understand what's wrong with Apple lately. I use iTunes daily with Apple Music, and what I would like to see from Apple is to fix all of their serious bugs (music disappearing from library, buffering indefinitely, iTunes generally lagging or being extremely slow or simply becoming unresponsive when changing views) and improve their customer support, which is useless. Instead they do this s**t where they change the interface every release, and it's usually for the worse. I was using the miniplayer at work, it was an easy, unobtrusive way to have my currently playing song on screen. I guess no more, Apple decided for me I shouldn't be able to do it any longer. It's like Apple tries their best to alienate their customer base on every occasion. Well Apple, I for one am tired of your s**t; guess it's time for me to head to greener pastures.

What I'm finding to be a problem is the "Show/Hide Mini Player Large Artwork". It keeps changing itself to 'Show...', which will hide the x to get back to full sized iTunes.

As far as small artwork, as much of an Apple fan as I am, this is a good example of them fixing something that wasn't broke. Not to mention the mini player is now no longer mini.

"Command + 0" (zero): toggles from Mini-Player to full screen and back. I keep my MiniPlayer "rolled up" all the way and go full screen when needed (mostly when changing playlists, streams, etc). I really miss the "x" and the small artwork on the old MiniPlayer.

How about the Apple tried-and-true-go-to solution: put in a "Classic MiniPlayer" option...make us old geezers happy for once!

I've found a viable work around that suits my needs. I found two apps that when used together, provide all the info I was looking for in the mini player. Instead of having a mini player floating in the corner of your screen, I now have the controls, the song and artist info displayed in the menu bar at the top of the screen.

Smashtunes will allow you to customize all the artist info you need, plus it allows you to show album art in a corner of your screen.

Bartunes provides all of the iTunes controls.

Combined, they give me all the control and info the mini player used to.
