Can't drag and drop safari images to desktop

Hi,

I just updated my version of safari 10.1 and now I suddenly can't drag and drop images to the desktop.

I just keep getting the error report message popup.

OS X El Capitan (10.11.6)

Here is a clue...

I am on 27" iMac, late 2015, w/retina, El Capitan, Safari 10.1

Try this and maybe you can make some sense of it...

  1. System Preferences > Displays > Color (my default is iMac)
  2. Change Display profile to Generic RGB Profile (for example)
  3. Now try dragging and dropping in Safari

Were I an Apple engineer I would think I had a good lead here, can anyone shed some light?

No tried that as well as caches. No change. This was brought on by the update. I will wait and see if Apple fixes the problem before having to reinstall the os from scratch. Oh as said, I had tried guest user same same. I can right click and save to downloads though on the external monitor. The problem is only on the external monitor, only after the update, and ONLY in Safari.

I've just just figured out an workaround.

- Open Time Machine backup.

- Open the application folder and find Safari

- Go back to the date before the last Safari update (march 27 in this case)

- Instand of restore from the backup (won't work) choose copy item form the submenu.

- Close Time Machine go back to the application Folder

- Create an new Folder there an choose paste form the Subfolder.

- This will copy the older version of safari in there.

- Start this older version and everything works like it used to do.

Same here - and one same El Capitan - 10.11.6

It not only won't allow drag and drop, I can't reorder my queue in Netflix. In other words - it seems nothing can be dragged within, or out of Safari.

You can still right click and save the image that way, but that doesn't help for within a page, like trying to reorder the queue.

Best they fix this one ASAP . . .

It seems - you can no longer drag anything. Either within a page, within Safari, or out to the desktop. Somehow they broke the connect to drag anything at all.

I posted just above this - but then reading back through the thread noticed one person said they didn't have the problem, having the same versions of El Capitain and Safari, and on a MacBook Pro. Maybe it depends on how old the MacBook Pro is - that's what I'm on here (early 2009) and I most definitely have the same problem.

Same problem, on a Mac Pro Mid 2010.

No problem on a MacBook Pro Mid 2012.

Both are running El Capitan 10.11.6 with the same software installed.

Also tried the solutions you tried, nothing changed.

I even reinstalled the "Security Update 2017-001", in case that something went wrong.

(I could not find the Safari Update 10.1 to reinstall it though...)

Also all my other browsers and software are functioning as expected when trying to drag & drop.

I also sent feedback in hope of a quick fix...

I have the same problem on my system. Safari crashes instantly the second the mouse begins to move in attempt to drag an image. Happens so fast that occasionally happens by accident when trying to click normally if there is any movement. I have a Retina MacBook Pro 2015 and a Mac Pro late 2013, both running El Capitan and Safari 10.1. (no available updates other than Sierra) and crash is identical on both.
