Can't drag and drop safari images to desktop

Hi,

I just updated my version of safari 10.1 and now I suddenly can't drag and drop images to the desktop.

I just keep getting the error report message popup.

OS X El Capitan (10.11.6)

Here is a clue...

I am on 27" iMac, late 2015, w/retina, El Capitan, Safari 10.1

Try this and maybe you can make some sense of it...

  1. System Preferences > Displays > Color (my default is iMac)
  2. Change Display profile to Generic RGB Profile (for example)
  3. Now try dragging and dropping in Safari

Were I an Apple engineer I would think I had a good lead here, can anyone shed some light?

I have the same problem since I updated Safari last week, and I use the drag and drop option very often during my work flow. In my case I have an external monitor attached to an iMac, the issue occurs in the iMac and not in the external monitor. I was testing changing the monitors' arrangement and disconnecting the external monitor but still the same. The problem occurs in the iMac monitor only.

Firefox works well in both monitors. This is just a Safari issue.

I just noticed something new: before when I was dragging an image from safari to the desktop of the external monitor, the file will be saved in the desktop of the iMac, never in the external monitor. Now, it does stay in the external desktop so I can see the file there, no in the iMac.

I only was able to find dialog on this issue when I realized the problem also occurs with trying to drag images. But my main issue is what you mention: if the mouse click, or in my case--stylus click--isn't perfectly clean, the error occurs. I have a tendency to not click straight down so if I'm browsing a site, or even just clicking through a google images result, the error occurs again and again. And really no thanks to the individual who had all sorts of measures to take, including reinstalling the OS. Sure, okay. In fact, I reinstalled my OS just a month ago and everything was running great until this Safari update.

Yup! same issue here. iMac since 10.1. Works fine on my mb-air though?! Also, point-click-opt(copy image) simply pastes url in document. Called Apple but after getting through (twice) they disconnect and do not call back. Guess they are under orders not to admit issue until they have a fix. It's been 10 days now. P'd off!

Best solution- Using Chrome until fix comes down.

It's incredible that this haven't addressed yet. It's quite annoying. In the mean time I updated (and downgraded from) Sierra... there isn't a problem at all. Now I have a complete clean (and shine) El Capitan install and the problem is still here. I don't know if the problem changes from machine to machine, but it's definitely in mine (MBP 15' late 2011).

It's also the second time I've reported this... I hope apple fixes this ASAP because although not critical it's really annoying. It doesn't only affects drag and drop of images, but also links and anything related to drag. For example, I can't drag things to reorder in websites.

Again, it's not critical but really annoying.

Yes Ipuerto it seems to affect any mac with El Capitan and Safari 10.1. I have tried this on 2 different systems - a 2015 MacBook Pro, and late 2013 Mac Pro (cylinder) and problem is the same.

Me too I find it extremely annoying as I use Safari for visual research and dragging images from the browser to Finder is a part of my workflow. I guess in Apple's eyes we are already "legacy" users and stubbornly refusing to take their hands and take the free upgrade, but for professionals whose priority is functionality of 3rd party apps, upgrading is not always a simple choice.

No, it does not affect any mac with El Capitan and Safari 10.1.

Don't upgrade to Sierra just for this. They MUST solve the problem.

I experience:

Dragging problem, on a Mac Pro Mid 2010.

No problem on a MacBook Pro Mid 2012.

Both are running El Capitan 10.11.6 and Safari Version 10.1 (11603.1.30.0.34).

Also they have exactly the same software installed.

Agree, It is very annoying...

I regularly backup but I don't use Time Machine to go back before this install.

This annoying bug makes me thing that I must backup even before such minor updates.

And this is no productive at all...

As a workaround, try control - clicking the image/Save image to the Desktop.

Safari/Browsers – can’t delete cookies

Evercookie

Quit Safari.

In Finder go to Go menu and then Go to Folder.

Copy and paste this ~/Library/Safari/Databases.

Delete the contents of the folder.

Launch Safari again and check if all is ok.

If that doesn’t work, copy and paste this ~/Library/Safari/Local Storage.

Delete the contents of the folder.

Test.

The problem with Sierra for me is:

1. one of my apps for working (Papers for Mac) is not working properly in sierra. It has a similar bug in el capitan, but he difference is, in el capitan the problem perhaps happens once or twice per day and in Sierra is happening almost every 30' or less.

2. I feel OS less fluid for my taste. I appreciate some of the new features although if I'm honest the most noticeable one is in messages. This really makes me ponder between new features and fluidity, and I prefer fluidity.

If I could bring the new messages to el capitan, I would be more than happy.
