Hi,
I just updated my version of safari 10.1 and now I suddenly can't drag and drop images to the desktop.
I just keep getting the error report message popup.
OS X El Capitan (10.11.6)
Here is a clue...
I am on 27" iMac, late 2015, w/retina, El Capitan, Safari 10.1
Try this and maybe you can make some sense of it...
Were I an Apple engineer I would think I had a good lead here, can anyone shed some light?
This worked for me...
Took a couple of hours online with Apple Tech checking extensions, plugins, (other) possible conflicts etc., but (bottom-line) upgrading OS to Sierra 10.12.4 worked. Upgraded to Sierra first, then checked for updates on App Store (one update). Let my Mac do its thing and eventually... after days and weeks of being driven nuts. It worked :-)
Note for web guys: I did have to reinstall MAMP and fiddle around with some settings and ports, also needed to reinstall some legacy java for DW 5.5 but got there in the end.
Hope this helps.
Well, I certainly don't need Apple's support to guide me to upgrade my OS as a solution, That's NOT a solution, and I don't want to upgrade to Sierra.
Apple really needs to tackle this because it IS a big deal: since it affects not only images but ANY dragging in Safari, I have already lost a few messages I was composing when the web content crashed on me before posting them. It is VERY annoying and potentially very harmful.
Sorry to tell you and as others have point you out... upgrade isn't a solution. It's just a scape forward.
Besides, for some of us isn't a real possibility... whether because we don't really like the new OS or some of our daily apps doesn't work there as expected. Or, as in my case, BOTH. Sierra has some "fluidity" problems in my opinion, and papers app that I almost use every day extensively.
I hope Apple will tackle the problem soon.
The idea of wasting 2 hours of my own time digging around system files with an "Apple tech" to fix a bug that came to my system packaged in Safari 10.1 is an absolute joke. The impossibility of a downgrade is an absolute joke.
I'd also like to add people such as myself who are not upgrading our OS aren't just making that decision out of stupidity or stubbornness, but so as to not disrupt a professional workflow and alter third-party app functionality.
Before you guys nail-me-to-a-tree... please know, I agree with you 100%. But, having spent sooooo long on the phone with the Apple Techs (on multiple occasions), it became clear is that Apple are NOT going to release the solution for Safari 10.1 that we all want(ed). I know, I know... trust me I feel exactly the same way as you guys, but you know what Apple are like (attitude wise). So, maybe you can stop beating on me, and take my post simply as an alternative suggestion (not a solution), the way it was intended. And, yes it does cause issues for third-party installs, and yes upgrading to Sierra is a real pain, but some of us simply need to suffer the pain, put the issue behind us, and move on! and, that's what I did.
With respect.
My problem is no with you, touchMe, of course. You are free to take whatever measure you think best for you, that should go without saying.
My problem is with Apple having introduced this glitch to begin with, not acknowledgeing it for quite some time now, and pushing users to upgrade their MacOS when they ask for a solution.
1. Why nail you "touchMe"?
2. Why upgrade to Sierra?
3. Why not just change browser?
Sierra (my opinion) is not an upgrade worthy of the mess that will bring to pros, just to use Safari...
I hope that Apple is not starting to use bugs as this to push users to a newer OS...
Some of us cannot upgrade to Sierra. I have a 2008 Mac Pro which only goes as far as El Capitan. Perhaps the solution according to Apple is to spend 3k on a new Mac...just to fix Safari. Glad the upgrade worked for you. I'd have no issue upgrading the OS if I could.
Yes JMM, I agree, this thread is about Safari's glitch and how to FIX it.
But
"3. Why not just change browser?"
is the only solution for people that can't upgrade to Sierra to have this solved.
I am a professional user, I don't want to upgrade to Sierra (or not yet), it will bring me problems and cost.
Generally I have the patience to wait for a fix and this Safari's bug is not costing to me (now) any money.
But the moment that dragging from Safari should for any reason become a critical part of my daily workflow (where "not working as supposed to" means "lose money") and with me not wanting to upgrade to Sierra, changing browser is my only and best solution.
I hope Apple will fix it soon.
I "donated" some hours to this glitch that shouldn't even happen.
I feel a little bit ignored...
One solution... if the glitch is annoying... let's annoy apple... I'm about to write everyday, at least once, to apple feedback and to the twitter account to just make them feel our annoyance.
👿
They broke it, they should fix it... IT'S THAT SIMPLE!
Hi touchMe, and sorry if my answer sounded critical of you. It wasn't my intention - it was only to criticise Apple once again. I thought that perhaps by bumping this thread once more, I might just create a tiny amount more noise and create the slightest increase of a chance of response from Apple.
Worth a try, but as you said, a fix doesn't seem likely. Honestly I have probably wasted much more time returning to this thread than the glitch has actually cost me, so I will just work around this, and I do plan to upgrade OS eventually, so whatever.
@ClarkFR I don't think Apple check this community regularly and I don't think they care if there is noise or we are quiet.
I think if we send then direct messages (feedback and twitter in the form of public tweets) they are going to be a little bit annoy by them. Mainly because they directly receive and is a little bit more public.
Sending reports it's also helpful in my opinion. Gives them the info to fix the problem although I think they have more than enough after one month of reports.
PS/ I think I have set up the reports automatically... do I'm sure they have a good number of mine.
Hey Ipurerto, yeah I agree. They really are a titanic company and the thought that they read all the comments on these forums is rather naive. I guess I just figure even a drop in the ocean is still something.
I have sent many many reports each time it happens too ;-)
People should be informed on all media sources of this issue. Someone asked me if they should purchase an Apple and I had a difficult time answering their question. I shared with them the continuous problems with Apple updates. Everyday more and more people are expressing their frustration. One can only hope that as we inform the public through FB, Twitter, etc. it will reach the ears of Apple. At least, they should have the courtesy and demonstrate some loyalty to the consumers by replying and acknowledging there is a problem.
I followed your lead and contacted them through Twitter... and, after wasting my time collecting the basic info on the case, they told me to upgrade to Sierra.
I will refrain from letting any expletitive out, but not without considerable effort.
