Update to 10.12.4 causing Date/Time Issues

Immediately after installing the 10.12.4 update I have problems with my system date-time. On initial boot I am getting a system date of 7th November 2040 or thereabouts. A few seconds later the system gets the correct time from an internet time server. I have reset PRAM and this did not help. I've not been able to get the key combination to reset SMC to work for me. It seems erratic, sometimes the date is correct. Were it not that this occurred immediately after the update I might consider other problems but I'm sure it's linked somehow.

I am about to download and reinstall 10.12.4

Not sure why I can't get SMC reset to do anything.

I had a conversation in apple support , they suggested a method by entering in recovery mode > utilities > terminal > enter correct > month date year and click on enter , restart the machine .

Example : 03 18 17

Here 03 - is month

18 - is date

17 - is year as it is 2017 .

Also viewed some You tube videos regarding it , and I didn't tried to to run the command given by them as my machine is working fine , please contact them and take an opinion , as per my knowledge if it would have happened in my system I would straight away take a decision , will submit the machine to apple authorised apple service centre .

Some better answers will definitely come to this thread and will solve the issue .

Thanks !

And Best wishes .

Can't say a hardware problem I am afraid if you enter the terminal command , something can go wrong in the machine as I didn't experimented in my machine , please execute the command on your own decision , but first of all consult in apple support , or some other participants in the community can have intelligent answers .

I have viewed a You tube video , go to system preferences > Date and time > uncheck the box for set date and time automatically manually set the correct date month and year and once again check the box , not sure it will work , I am also using Mac OS Sierra 10.12.4 ( with latest updates ) , but it never happened that time is moved in the future , as it is always recommended to set the correct continent , in the time zone closest city should be shown , language and region > advanced > click on restore defaults .

I have tried these suggestions, and no joy. Switching off automatic and reenable fixes the problem for the short term, and then on next reboot problem maybe back!

At the moment i am doing what a previous poster suggested and manually entering the date/time with auto switched off. Hopefully this will be fixed on the next update, due soon!

What could be the reason of changed date and year that is very important , was it changed manually or system files are corrupted , the You tube videos methods are sometimes correct and sometimes not , but we hope so that in next update this issue should get solved , and reinstalling the OS is the last option left .

Today I haven't had any problems with my MBP resetting the date to 2040. I must have rebooted about 20 times, no problems. The only difference is I have been using a different WIFI network!

So for me, this is either an intermittent problem which I cannot recreate today, or its linked with the WIFI router or network! The wifi I experienced problems with is a lot older and slower than my fibre connection today.

Could this problem be linked to the WIFI network or router? It would make sense since some posters have had a fix with Ethernet drivers.

I have the problem too. Only a clean install of Sierra seems to have fixed it for now. But now my Time Machine is messed up and I can't correctly restore some files. Apple Engineering is studying the Time Machine issue, after I chatted with them for 2 hours and did all kinds of things.

Also, this new update to Sierra has serious problems with WiFi connectivity -- Mail and Safari freezing needing a force-quit, Siri and App Store losing their connection.

I have a super fast MB Pro Mid 2015, i7, etc... Came with El Capitan. Upgrade to Sierra went fine. But this recent update ruined lots of things!

What a HORRIBLE update.

It's all to common these days for companies to rely entirely upon the user community for beta testing. I don't know about anyone else but my laptop is too important to me and my business to experiment on it and potentially loose functionality / data and time when I have to restore it.

If I had a spare machine then maybe - but even then it's a time consuming exercise. Having said that being a developer I am quite good and diagnosing problems. Maybe if Apple provide me with a machine and pay me for testing.... 😁

MacBook Pro (15-inch, 2016)

2.9 GHz Intel Core i7

16 GB 2133 MHz LPDDR3

Same Issue. Tried all of the above.

Straight out of the box.

This wont happen when the power cord is plugged in and I power off the machine. If I turn off the machine with the power cord plugged in the time remains. This leaves me to believe that it's something to do with the laptop. To think I just got this one fresh from Apple. Not looking good. I'm probably going to demand they allow me to return it since it was just received it in the mail one week ago.

Also Dave. Don't take advice from Non-Apple employees (especially level 1 bloggers, not leaving myself out). Simply saying it may be software? May be something you're just noticing now.

This 10.12.4 update is having all the effects of a typical computer virus! I'm trying not to be cynical, but I think Apple somehow intends such things: You buy a brand new top-of-the-line Apple Computer. Then Apple issues an update to the OS and that update ruins your computer. The only thing to do is buy a new computer!

I remember when I had my first MB Pro. It came with Snow Leopard. I was impressed at the speed and stability of the system. Then I upgraded to Lion. That ruined my MB Pro. It became slow as cold mollasses.

I now have a new MB Pro that came with El Capitan. I upgraded to Sierra (.3) and that was actually OK. But then Apple released this .4 Update. Now my computer is going haywire.

When they advertised 10.12.4, they should've said this: "This update helps to destabilize your system. It will randomly alter the system date to the year 2037 or 2040, rendering many apps and websites useless. It will damage Time Machine, so that it will be impossible for you to return to a previously functioning OS. The WiFi connection will also be attacked with frequent drops of the signal and freezing of Safari, Mail, App Store and Siri, requiring a force-quit and restart many times. This update will slow or stop most of your productive activities, leading you to purchase a brand new computer at your local Apple Store, or maybe even the Dell Computer Store."

since the release of 10.12.4 i get this time issue almost after every reboot or boot. The Systemtime shows year 2038 or 2037 at the login screen, after login year 2040 at the task bar and year 2038 at systempreferences showed. i have tested all the stuff i found at www and many many more. absolutly nothing worked for me. This behaviour drived me crazy. The last chance bevor returning to apple, was installing the last beta of 10.12.5. Now i am running 10.12.5 beta 4 for a few days. since this update i rebooted, shuted down and startet my mac pro 15" late 2016 very often and I never get back the time issue.

Can anybody also confirm that the behavior is fixed on sierra 10.12.5?

I'll try my best to write here in english, please try to undersdand me.

Thanks
