Update to 10.12.4 causing Date/Time Issues

Immediately after installing the 10.12.4 update I have problems with my system date-time. On initial boot I am getting a system date of 7th November 2040 or thereabouts. A few seconds later the system gets the correct time from an internet time server. I have reset PRAM and this did not help. I've not been able to get the key combination to reset SMC to work for me. It seems erratic, sometimes the date is correct. Were it not that this occurred immediately after the update I might consider other problems but I'm sure it's linked somehow.

I am about to download and reinstall 10.12.4

Not sure why I can't get SMC reset to do anything.

Thanks for posting this DaveGarrat. I've been googling around and this is the first post I've found that is actually related to the issue I'm having with my MacBook Pro 2014.

By reading replies and comments from others on this post, I think it's clear by now that this is not related to any driver or third party software. Doing a full OS reinstall doesn't solve the issue either (I've tried it as well).

I'm hoping that the 10.12.5 update fixes this, as others have pointed out. I'm just waiting for the final release so that I can get it, not sure about installing the beta version for now, since it may cause another different issue.

I could not go back to 10.12.3, for some reason. My only solution was to delete everything and reinstall El Capitan. As a result of reinstalling El Capitan, I ended up losing Siri, but my MacBook Pro is back to functioning properly, fast, and stable. Apple did something horrible in 10.12.4 and they owe us a big explanation!

Same problem like every one else, I have tried most of the same things, I also have problems

with Safari not recognizing web sites certificates.

This temporary fix works for me (till the next OS X upgrade),

at start up turn off Wi-Fi and then turn it back on and that correctly reset the time

and fix the certificates problems with Safari..

Good news, thanks for posting DaveGarrat.

I wonder why the patch description says it's an issue "affecting some enterprise and education customers"... I'm a regular user. But either way it's great know their addressing this in the next update.

GianniNYC: turning the Wi-Fi off/on sometimes works for me also, but it's kinda unpredictable, only works sometimes for me. So far I haven't found a way to reproduce (or even temporarily solve) the issue. I just reset the Wi-Fi, turn on/off the automatic timezone setting and restart the machine.

I have similar or the same problem - since upgraded to 10.12.4, date of my MBP 15" late 2016 randomly jumps few days to and fro, few times per hour. The time jumps randomly too. I have an Agenda app that detects date change and display question if I want to change display to another day, otherwise I may not notice how often this happens.

When opening Date&Time control panel, date and time jumps to correct value. Upgrading to 10.12.5 did not help.

It's bad news that 10.12.5 did not help. I wonder if you could provide an overview of your hardware and maybe any software which is not from the app store in case we can determine anything which is common between your setup and other people which have the same issue.

As someone else noted the release notes for 10.12.5. refer to corporate/educational setups experiencing the date issue but the vast majority of people on this thread don't seem to fall into that category. I wonder if that is apple speak for using a Proxy server to access the internet ?

SMC and PRAM reset is most definitely in my opinion an important step - keep trying. Less hassle that downgrading to previous release.

I reset SMC and zapped PR and problem seems to went away. I do not know what caused it in first time, if it is caused by some software it can reappear, but since yesterday I did not noticed any jumps in date or time.

MBP 15" late 2016 with a lot of various software. Software that install system extensions ( so could have access to date and time setting) include Parallels for virtualisation, several VNC software, custom Razer mouse driver, dropbox and online backup system etc., however nothing was installed in last few days.
