Settings for acoustic guitar with pickups

What setting(s) should I use to record an acoustic guitar with pickups? I am going thru an audio interface, a Focusrite Scarlett 2i2. My first attempts have yielded a sound which is WAY, WAY too bass-heavy. I am playing finger-style, and I can hardly even hear the high strings. I'd like to get a balanced sound for my baseline, then tweak it later.

(The vocal track sounds just right, btw.)

Also, is it possible that if I monitor the recording while playing, the bass from the monitor is resonating in the guitar body, and compounding the problem? (Obviously, I can turn off the monitor if need be, or use headphones.)

Thanks, all, in advance.

OK, I know that one, it's a passive with a very high output, warm sound, slightly lacking in brilliance but good for steel strung guitars. But you need the ability to change the eq to suit your taste. Buy this:

It will give you access to what you need.

And (bearing in mind the aforementioned very high output) I suggest turning the gain down even more, you can make it up farther down the chain.

some built in mics for acoustic can have contour and bypass controls that need to be set, or they have dying batters that add all kinds of fun. I'm coming from the side of "I'm the guitar player, not an engineer and this is all voodoo." but my understanding is CSound hands on expertise with the scientific side of electronic amplification and can probably shed better light on your plight. The amp you use on stage is a combination of pre and power amp, the preamp section provides the inputs you plug into and low level amplification (voltage amplification) to provide sufficient signal level for the power amp to work on. With guitar pickups especially the pre-amp has a significant effect on the sound you get, you will get used to that and you may want to experiment with monitoring via speaker, adding a little will 'warm up' the guitar. Think of it not as a monitor device but a tone control (with also a slight delay equal to the time it takes for the sound to get from the monitor to the guitar)

Oh, a few more questions:

To GarageBand, is my pickup-equipped acoustic guitar considered an "electric guitar?"

Or do I (as I did, on my first attempts) use the mic "audio" mode? And on the Scarlett, do I put the input switch on LINE, or on INST?

Finally, if I experiment with this stuff, do I run any risk of hurting my gear, myself, or innocent bystanders?
