If one AirPod is louder than the other

as weirdly as this sounds it’s worked. i was so mad that it one side was louder than the other but then i read the replies and it worked. you don’t have to “suck” the biggest whole just clean it and it will work but if i doesn’t then trying sucking so glad i didn’t have to go out and buy new ones

I was having same issue with my right airpod being much lower than the left. What i did was clean with alcohol and a toothbrush first to loosen up the earwax. Next I put the Airpods under a towel and put my vacuum on top of them. Ran my vacuum for about 10 secs and now my Airpods sound brand new.

Not to join the bandwagon train here but this really does work. My left AirPods was playing louder than my right even though they were both fully charged and I cleaned them both. I found this thread and sure enough after sucking on the right one the volume is balanced again. You should be able to hear the air as you suck and it does taste quite weird but bottom line it works :)

my Right AirPod was really quiet and my right was really loud and I saw that if you suck and it isn’t that gross on the piece that goes deepest in your ear until you can get air through and it is pretty hard it took me 5 mins to do but it’s soo worth it and now I can listen with both in at the same volume 😁

Yeah, I can't believe it but sucking the big speaker on the quieter Airpod really does work. Prior to reading this thread I returned my Airpods to the Apple Store 4 times!! They kept returning me new Airpods and telling me to update the software on my computer, which had nothing to do with this issue and was patronizing. I finally took things into my own hands and looked up this thread and saw this response. Completely changed everything for me. I'd be going crazy right now during Coronavirus lockdown if I had this issue and didn't know about this trick unable to go to the Apple Store to get them replaced.

Apple, if you're reading this, give this man a medal.

It’s absolutely disgusting but I tried all the other technical fixes which didn’t work so tried the sucking technique and now it works like new and volumes back to normal. My fault occurred after attempting to clean so can only assume this actually blocks the black covers and dampens the sound

Thank you. Worked for me too. I carefully used a cocktail stick. I don’t know why it didn’t occur to me that there’s no reason for my ears to produce equal amounts of wax and at my age nothing works perfectly.

Oh my god that actually worked, I thought I would have to take them in because after sucking on the big speaker nothing happened so instead I blew into the small one and it cleared out. So gross but it ended up working after a couple tries!

At this point If it’s still under warranty, you may want to make an appointment with Apple. This happened with my son’s AirPod. They took it and cleaned it but problem was still there. It was still under warranty and they replaced the one side at no cost to us.

i would just like to say that the sucking thing legit worked! it sounds gross and at first i was like "i don't think that this will work" but i have it a go and it totally worked. no wax was inhaled or anything. highly recommend doing this lol

LOL - possibly, yes. Depends on where the wax sits inside the earbud, but certainly worth a try. It should be stated that no earwax was consumed (by me) in this procedure. Even a tiny bit can dampen the sound, and when you suck it collects on the outside of the mesh to be wiped away...

I had the same issue and what I did was blow the earbud for like 10 minutes and I tried to do it as much as possible without spitting it it and now they work like when I bought them also clean them out with something dry not anything like a wipe that will just break them so yea I did all that and now they work perfectly

My left AirPod was significantly quieter than the one on my right.

Found an answer that stated to suck on the weaker speaker saying that earwax is stuck in there.

I tried the sucking on the weaker AirPod, it actually works. I thought it was weird at first but it truly fixed the problem.

Okay. So yes, it sounds gross. But I was having the exact same problem. Everything was balanced in my settings. Nothing was wrong, but I couldn't hear anything out of my left air pod. I did the sucking thing and now my music is just as loud as when I first bought them.

I had the same issue with my right airpod, it was lower than the left & after reading the answers under this post thats exactly what helped me. “Sucking” the larger speaker until you can hear air coming through the smaller speakers. Now my right is good as new!
