Safari iOS 10.3.1 not clearing Safari cache

Hello,

Firstly, I would like to apologize for my very long absence from these forums. I was a regular and often visited to offer help when I could. My father was very ill then passed away a little over a year ago so I have had a lot to deal with and am still dealing with.

That being said, the reason I am here today is that I have noticed that after the last iOS update (10.3.1) that my Safari cache does not clear completely. I have tried deleting it through settings and through Safari. This is happening on both of my iPads and my iPhone. Is anyone else having this issue? I will report it but wanted to know if this was widespread or something going on with only my devices?

I have tried resetting the devices, turning iCloud off for Safari, setting the date forward, etc, and nothing helps. Not all websites visited remain in my cache, just a select few. I cannot figure out why some clear and some don't.

If someone has a solution they have found please let me know.

Thanks!

Anyway, I hope you all are well!

I have been having this problem on my macOS Sierra 10.12.5 with one particular evercookie from LLBean. I have repeatedly tried to delete it, but it pops right back up. I also cleared my history and deleted all my cookies. It was just annoying until I gave the local LLBean store a not-so-hot review on yelp. I use my married name when I order from LLBean online but continue to use my birth name (first name, last initial) on yelp. Not long after I posted that review I got an apologetic email offering me 30% off at that store. The email cited specific issues I had with the store! I was completely shocked after realizing that they are tracking me online. Needless to say, I'll never visit that store again, nor will I ever order another thing from LLBean. I would really like to get rid of them, so I checked the privacy page on their website, but it has been removed. I don't know what to do next.

IOS or MacOS,

In MacOS, you can go to Library->Safari folder and delete the contents of the database and cache folder manually.

and restart Safari.

In IOS, I had to do a complete reset, and turn off cookies in Safari, and now use IOS Chrome until there is a fix. I firmly believe that these are what I call "Malware Cookies" it's sole purpose is to track you to the max.

My cookies are Google, a few outfits that are years old (a friend used my iPad to order some sporting goods FOUR years ago), and several compnaies I have NEVER dealt with. Costco is the current worst offender. It plants a super cookie and there is nothing you can do to get rid of it. Worse, it is growing. Apple needs to solve this. I filed an incident report and I know that hndreds of other people have done so, too.

The really maddening thing are the iPad's I bought for my grandchildren - ages 6, 9, and 10. I locked their iPad's down and added them to "Family sharing" so I could regulate the apps they get. Now, hoever, they have *MY* super cookies with the accompanying malware tracking them. I think the FCC might be interested enough in this to do something about it. It's illegal as h*ll to do this stuff with minors. If you have a child with an iPad, check the cookies. Then, file an FCC complaint.

Still with iOS 10.3.3, this issue remains. Before I had only one entry, now I have two. One with 68 kb and one with 0 kb, and these can't be removed.

fireman306: What will happen with the pairing of Apple Watch and all activity/health data if I perform as you suggested? As you maybe know, Apple Watch pairing/activity data is not "that" smooth when it comes to restoring the iPhone.

I do really hope that Apple solves this with iOS 11. My ticket with Apple is still open...

Hello DjTaym,

I am not sure how the content of the Apple Watch and health app will respond to doing as I suggested. A backup first should solve any issues of losing anything you want to keep. Those particular things were not an issue for myself at the time I did it. As for the iOS 11 I have been running it now for a month. As part of the Beta program. It's been so far so good on not having any cache issues. Though there are plenty of bugs that need to be worked out still. But I do enjoy the new added features for control center and texting features also.

Hi,

I encountered the same problem on Ipad and Iphone, both on 10.3.3. Being website data left after clearing it all. Some had 0 kb, others a bit more. What finally helped for me :

revisit the site which gives you the unerasable data, just go to the home page, nothing more

return to website data in settings/safari/advanced manually remove just this one by swiping over it

go back to settings/safari and tap advanced again. remove all the rest of website data.

Repeat for every previously unerasable website data file

For me this worked perfectly.

Unfortunately what you suggest actually is *not* a "fix" - it is what's generally referred to as a "work-around" as it does not permanently remove the source of the problem... in time you most likely will find that the issue reoccurs. And it is a very clumsy and unusable work-around for most people at that due to the loss of at least access to needed personal and personalized data involved if not actual *permanent* loss of that data altogether (and not just health data, btw),

I am old enough to recall from many years ago the worldwide complaints and lawsuits against Microsoft for its tightly-knit integration of Internet Explorer with its Windows desktop operating system. We now see a very good example of the potential complications and potentially serious dangers involved with such a design of Safari and iOS.

The only real fix would be Apple's identification of the problematic Safari/iOS code (the cause of the problem does not *appear* to be iCloud-related, at least on the surface); in the meantime even a temporary work-around would have to be created by Apple. IDEALLY they would go so far as to also establish Safari as an app separate from the operating system... but sadly this is not an ideal world...
