digital output dropping after ios 10.3.1 update

Hi all,

I just downloaded and tried ios11 on my iphone6 with both an oppo-HA2SE and HA2.

The glitches and drop-outs all appear to be gone, finally, at least in my case. I tried a variety of files, everything from 44khz up to 192khz FLACs. I also tried a few apps, including streaming sites (Pandora, Amazon). No issues observed.

I will try my Apogee One later today on my drive home, but I never had an issue with that hardware in any iOS release (although I think others did).

i have to retract that... I got two glitches in 30 minutes. it's significantly better, but the problem is still there.

In my case: the story goes like this with an oppo HA-2SE and HA-2 with an iphone6:

pre-10.3: no issues

10.3.2: dropouts which forced resets typically every minute or so. Basically, it is not usable.

10.3.3: glitches at the same intervals as 10.3.2, but it recovered automatically... no need to reset anything.

11: glitches infrequently, approx every 15 or so.

I think the issue is with the audio stack some where around 10.3. I have this issue with my usb dac on either cck, with lightning headphones, and over Bluetooth still there on 11.3 beta 1 have reported every beta in feedback

Another new twist for me. I just switched from a 6 to a 6s and the drops are gone in 11.0.1.

So, either it's a marginal problem and some combinations of HW simply don't have the issue or it's tied specifically to the model of the phone.

The marginal observation could make sense in that some people with the same HW simply don't have the issue, whereas others do... and some have it bad and some not so bad.

Could even be a version of the HW itself within the iPhone causing the differences...?

Last night I downloaded iOS 11 on my iPhone 6, too, as I wanted to once again be able to listen while traveling and commuting – something I haven’t been able to do for what seems like half the year already. The glitches and drop-outs remain. If anything, I think it’s worse than 10.3.3. It once again will actually stop playing, though I did have to pull and reinsert the CCK once. Other times, I just had to press play a few times. As a reminder, I use Chord Mojo. Does anyone have a recommendation for a phone or a portable DAP that does work with the Chord Mojo? Thanks for any help.

Still no improvement although I've tried quite a few different settings, airplane mode, cables, both the USB 2 and USB 3 CCKs. I thought I saw Chord, on its Facebook page yesterday, say the Mojo was working with iPhone's iOS 11, but I may have been wrong. I do see comments from several others saying it's still not working. Earlier in the year, Chord said the same when 10.3.3 came out in August: "It seems that Apple may have fixed its issue with the Camera Connection kit in the latest ioS 10.3.3 update - we're seeing full-on Mojo action here with our devices and connectors. Do let us know how you're getting on!" Inadeje, I'm glad you've managed to get it working. I was wondering if it's your later model iPhone, but one of the FB comments was "Mojo still not working With iOS 11 And iPhone 7." I have the 6S, so I can't say. Or maybe it has to do with your new Oppo vs our Chord Mojos? Is anyone else here continuing to have the same problem after upgrading to iOS 11?

The issue is not resolved. iPhone 7, iOS 11.0.2, Oppo HA2, Onkyo HF Player playing 96K/ 24 bit FLAC, brief pauses in the sound. It can go 20 minutes without happening, and appears to be happen when I am not using the phone for anything else. The Oppo is MFI certified, and I am using an Apple 0.5m Lightning to USB cable.

I know exactly what you mean. But I'd like to thank you and everyone for sharing their problems with both the iOS versions and the different hardware configurations. It seems no matter which iPhone is used, the problems can be exhibited with DACs.

Again, if anyone has any recommendations for DAPs that work with the Cord Mojo, please share.

I found this in Google News today under technology. Here is my edited version: Apple appears to be slowing down old iPhones by throttling processor speeds when a battery capacity deteriorates over time. Geekbench developer John Poole has mapped out performance for the iPhone 6S and iPhone 7 over time, and has come to the conclusion that Apple’s iOS 10.2.1 and 11.2.0 updates introduce this throttling for different devices. iOS 10.2.1 is particularly relevant, as this update was designed to reduce random shutdown issues for the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6S. Apple’s fix appears to be throttling the CPU to prevent the phone from randomly shutting down." I've seen other mappings of this phenomenon. Apple has denied this, but tests confirm this is happening. It may be good for the majority of users. But as my digital output dropping problems started with iOS 10.2.1, I wonder if this might be the cause for many of us. We all assume (realize) it's in the software, and that it started at this time. In any case, I did get a player that doesn't have this problem. I'm not happy carrying it around in addition to my iPhone, but at least I can listen without a problem. Still, I thought I should share this.

I've got a Dragonfly Red which has experienced problems since 10.3.2. Subsequent updates haven't resolved the issue, including today's upgrade to iOS11 :-(

I tried 11.0.1 today... it's actually worse than 11.0... the glitches are far more frequent now... I got one glitch every 1-2 seconds 5 times in a row.

I wonder if the majority of people having trouble, still, are using something older than an iPhone7.

Still, Apple cannot seem to get this right. It seems clear they are at fault and will simply do nothing about it. I wonder what would happen if I took the phone and the certified OPPO HA2-SE to the apple store and demo'ed the problem? They'd probably tell me it's the OPPO... well, I have 2, I can bring both of them to rule out an outlier. Then, I suppose the response will be that it's a general OPPO problem.

With 11.0.2, output still intermittently drops when using iPhone 7p, mojo and CCK3.

I invested the unit for better music experience but turned out to be a torture. Truly disappointing! Doesn’t Apple know the problem? Or how does it benefit from this?

No progress. iPhone 7, iOS 11.1 (15B93), Apple 0.5m Lightning cable, Oppo HA 2 DAC (MFI certified). Audio skips randomly; it can go for 20 minutes without issue and then skip several times in five minutes. Clearly, MFI certification is a worthless designation.

I would like to share my experience, and see if anyone has a work around?

I recently bought a Chord Mojo. I have an Apple iPhone 6 Plus mobile phone (running the latest iOS version 11.2.1). And I bought a genuine Apple Lightning to USB Camera Adaptor from a high street retailer. I connected the Mojo to my iPhone using your included 10cm Micro USB cable and Apple adaptor and played music for about 45 minutes and the music dropped for a split second a few times randomly when playing music from the iPhone's native music player. I was not touching or moving the Mojo, iPhone or any cables when the sound dropped.

When plugged directly into my Apple MacBook via the included Micro USB cable, the music plays fine with no drops.
