Airpods keep disconnecting

I've had them for about a day. I used them for about 30 minutes for a phone call. After that they kept disconnecting and even when they say they're connected you can't hear anything. I've unpaired them and repaired them and they just don't work.

I’m not convinced this is just interference. I have the situation and even by turning off Apple Watch and MacBook, and completely resetting the AirPods / repairing- no joy. The solution? Reboot iPhone 7 Plus. Suddenly everything worked. I wonder if this is a memory problem.

So I have the same issue. I can get the AirPods to work outside of my house.

In the house they pair easily, work with music, YouTube, etc. However, as soon as I make a call there’s no sound whatsoever. I can see that the Airpods are connected, but I can’t hear the caller and they can’t hear me until I move to iPhone speaker or iPhone.

I can see that there’s some interference at play here, what I can’t understand is how I can do just about everything else with the AirPods except make a bloody call, (which is why I bought them).

Nothing else in my house is effected by interference. I have a Netgear router, Sonos, Firesticks, AppleTVs, Xbox, a plethora of wireless devices connected with no issues - and neither have I had any, why should the AirPods be so sensitive?

i’ve has my airpods a couple of weeks and today they just started to disconnect and reconnect every 30 seconds. i thought the battery was almost dead so i put them in the charging case and they read 43% charge. i looked around and unpaired them from all my apple devices and verified they were not attempting to connect to my mom apple devices and still they were disconnecting. going to notify apple today to get a fix for this.

I may be a victim, too, of being an Apple FanBoy buying AirPods for phone calls. I have multiple Apple devices used via my Apple/iCloud ID.

If removing the AirPods from other devices - Watch, Mac, iPad, etc - I can do that, though not sure how to make it permanent given the iCloud sync it uses.

As others have said, my primary use for the AirPods is for phone calls. And having the AirPods shared with my Watch allows me to step away from the iPhone and mute/control the call via my Watch.

Has anyone else found a solution other than disabling Bluetooth on other devices than the iPhone?

I have been a loyal Apple user, owner and stockholder since before 2007, I own lots of Apple products, and by and large have been happy with each and every one of them. Until now, that is.

I bought a set of AirPods ($159.99) a few months ago and after a while realized that the pods were disconnecting randomly from the phone. My Apple watch, by the way, NEVER loses connection with the phone.

Now the first thing I noticed was the battery would die with-in 2 hours if I left them in my ears. SInce I don't listen to music or chat a lot on the phone, I decided to take them out when not using them. If I get a call I pop them in my ears , hear the sound flourish and tap tap, answer the phone. Or if I want to make a call, I put them in and tap tap, Siri, call my wife". Except about a third of the time, even when I hear the flourish, there is NO actual connection to the system

Contacted Apple Support and after a while went thru the reset process, twice and they seemed to work. Until the next day and at least once a day, every day since. I have to manually connect the AirPods to the Bluetooth.

I am thinking about throwing them away and going back to my el-cheapo horse collar bluetooth ear buds, that ALWAYS work. ALWAYS work.

To be clear, I have the iPhone X. When I had my 7+ I didn’t have this issue. Now I do. All the time.

I have to manually connect them. I think it has to do with update after 11.0. This is ridiculous though. I don’t get it. You pay all this $$ for these and it doesn’t work at all.

I’ve reset them 4 times. This shouldn’t happen. Ever.

Also when I called Apple Support previously I received an email from Apple about the support case (20000003587508). Instructions in the email indicate that if I wish to reopen the case, to click on the case number and I am brought to Apple Support.

I get to a page where I see this:

Why:AirPods, GFDWJGK9H8TT, Sound Quality

Clicking on either selection brings me to a sign in page, two part authorization process and I have a choice to choose a product and I will be connected to an expert. List are My iPhone, my Watch and my iPad.

Below these items is a comment that if my device is not listed to go to my account page and add it.

Except my AirPods are not listed (there is no way to add them) and I get sent to a generic help page on how to add a device to my account. Which does not help.

I bought my AirPods thru my Apple account and had them delivered from Apple to the house. Same thing I did for my Watch, iPad and iPhone SE. They are all listed.

I am not happy.
