I am trying to find a section somewhere in this vast Apple chasm where I can download all of my purchase invoices from the last years for my accountant. Where is it and why is it so hard?

Of course I did that yesterday, but hoped someone knew how I could get the invoices that don’t match the order confirmation on my own.
Go in iTunes, log in with your Apple ID and you can review your purchases there. There is no way that I am aware of to download individual invoices, but this will allow you to view all of your purchases.
You might be able to get duplicate emailed receipts for purchases from the last 90 days via http://reportaproblem.apple.com
Apart from that all you can do is take screenshots of an account's purchase history as described.
