Can I import old version project files into Final Cut Pro X?

I am an intern at a music conservatory and I make videos and all kinds of media for them. Yesterday we wanted to get Photoshop on my computer but in order to do this we had to update the iOS version. It now runs Sierra. Only downside that had was that Final Cut Pro would no longer operate before it was updated too so I asked IT to update it for me while I was gone. They did but I think they did not do it correctly because my Library has completely vanished. I managed to recreate the library and import all my files but I can't get my old project files opened. They are stored as files called "CurrentVersion.fcpproject" in My Documents. FCP refuses to open the files.

Is there any way I can retrieve these old project files and get them to work in the new FCP?

Mac Pro, macOS Sierra (10.12.4)
