iOS 10.3.2 update drains battery

I have an iPhone 7 Plus. I have had no battery life issues until updating to iOS 10.3.2. Prior to the update I would get a full day of use. I could go from 6 am to 11 pm and still have 20% battery life left. Since updating to 10.3.2, I am at 50% battery life by midday with light use, and need to charge before leaving work for the day. Anyone else having this same issue since upgrading to iOS 10.3.2?

Hello pechapa,
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.

I understand from your post that since updating to iOS 10.3.2 your battery life has decreased. New updates have new features that can use more battery life than previous software versions. I recommend using the steps from the following article to maximize your battery life:

Sterling you could sound sane and logical but only to yourself. The battery drain issue on 10.3.2 has affected many users globally. Do some research u s.c.um. I too am a victim to it. And one more thing, it's not always right to bootlick Apple when issues like this come up. Apple deliveres software upgrade, sometimes things go wrong and such issues are identified post roll out, when people like Pechapa and me report to Apple.

We all love Apple but you don't have to pull your pants down and bend down for that. Stand up for what's right and be a man with a spine.

And yes 10.3.2 battery issue is real and people are affected by that.

Yesterday I had an apple chat. On a new battery at 16:00 from a full charge and battery calibration at 07:00 I had 33% of battery remaining. I told the lovely Meghan than I didn't think this was anything like the battery performance I was used to prior to 10.3.2. Her suggestion to turn on auto-brightness and change down my sleep settings were followed. AND GUESS WHAT?? Today at 16:00 from a full battery charge my phone is on 83%.

Could it be so simple? (Caveat - It is a new battery replaced under the sudden battery collapse serial number offer)

The only reason I bought the Plus was that the battery last longer. Thus, this new update is very annoying to the point that my phone will show sign of charging but does not charge! I did all the boilerplates (I have 2 original chargers, restore the firmware, ...) only when the iPhone is connected to iTunes when it charge but it will take 8h to go from 7% to 45%!!!!

The hardware is working fine it's the D**** software!

An update from me:

After calibrating my battery four times in a row, my iPhone can now last a whole day (plus a few hours) on one charge. It's still not like before, but it'll do for me at the moment.

My battery never lost several percent at a time after the update, it always counted them done by single digit, but really fast! I suggest, if your phone doesn't react to one battery calibration, try doing several in a row. Can't hurt, right?

I have an iPhone 6S Plus running iOS 10.3.2. My battery life seems to get worse with every iOS update. It is TERRIBLE!! Running only Bluetooth for my wireless headphones, and an app with rain sounds to relax or sleep, the battery went free m 100% to 82% in less than an hour!! If I turn on Wifi and listen to sounds on YouTube, while using Bluetooth and my headphones, it drops to about 55% in the same amount of time. No other apps are running and I've have the screen brightness turned down so low that I can barely even tell that it's on. I LOVE the iPhone itself. However, if people are still complaining when the iPhone 8 is released, I'm seriously considering switching to an Android phone.

I am getting increasingly fed up with this. My iPhone6 has been having severe battery drain issues ever since I upgraded ios to 10.3.2. I never had any battery issues prior to this and my phone always easily lasted between overnight recharges. My pattern of use has not changed throughout this time.

I have tried recalibrating the battery, following to the letter the step by step approach detailed here: http://www.appledystopia.com/how-to/calibrate-iphone-battery/

If anything my phone is getting worse - it has shutdown twice already today and I am only halfway through the day. It jumps down in massive steps and then shuts down when still showing 47% battery. At least I still have my 5c running ios8 to fall back on, although it is the smallest capacity model so leaves me short in many areas and ios8 lacks some of the features I have got used to in ios10.

Isn't it now high time we got an official response from Apple on this issue, after all this is described as an official Apple user forum?

Yes. I took my (previously very reliable) iPhone 5s to the Apple Store yesterday about this issue. They ran diagnostics and confirmed that the battery itself is fine and that the problem is the software, without actually acknowledging that it was caused by the software update. They claimed that a reset to factory settings would fix the problem (it didn't) but said there was another problem with the auto-rotate function that wouldn't be fixed by the re-set (also not true - that function is now fine) but since it's out of warranty, they very generously offered me a $70 trade-in on a new phone. Cheers Apple, thanks for nothing! I'm now carrying a portable re-charger around with me wherever I go.

So the 10.3.3 update has finally been released.

If, like me, anyone was hoping that this would fix the battery problem - think again. I installed the update then charged the battery to 100%. Three hours later it's down to 60% without being used at all, with every non-essential app deleted and every possible battery-saving recommendation followed.

Bye Apple! But then again, they don't care. When I went to the Apple store for help last time the response I got was "Well, even if this has happened to 1000 people, that's not really so many in the scheme of things, is it?" Followed by a shrug, and another offer of a $70 trade-in.

Not likely!

Not much point- I already had detailed diagnostics done in store. Battery OK, iPhone OK. No apps are draining the battery, but ever since the 10.3.2 update, the iOS software ITSELF is draining it at twice the speed of sound.

My husband bought his iphone the same day and it's OK (and I appreciate that many others aren't having a problem either) but after my experience I doubt he'll ever be prepared to update his software again, and nor will many of my family, friends or colleagues. Two friends do have the same battery drain problem since the update and evidently so do lots of people on this forum. And it has nothing to do with a bad battery or not knowing how to use the battery saver setting etc etc. If an iPhone is only good till the warranty runs out, then Apple have really lost the plot, and have also lost me & mine as future customers, but as the service guy in the Brisbane Apple store said - so what?

The update destroyed a phone I could barely afford in the first place. It's certainly taught me how easy it is to live without all the latest greatest products, and that's a lesson I won't forget. I'll buy as cheap as reasonably possible from now on - much easier to replace when it gets destroyed through poor engineering by a company that just wants to sell you something else you can't afford.
