There is an easy work around to the "non-existent" add contact button when you have a large group. Follow these steps:
1. Note the name of the contact of the first person in your existing group text;
2. Then, go to contacts and Add the new person that is not currently in the group to your contacts (skip if they are already in your contacts)
3. go to create new message
4. begin by typing in the name of the person identified in #1 above next to the word "To:", this should populate a list of possible text groups
5. find the text group that you want, tap that group, this will filln the "To:" section with the full group
6. you will have a cursur at then end of the full group, start typing the name of the new contact (person in #2) a list will appear and tap on the proper person
7. tap on "text message" and begin to type. The person identified in paragraph #2 has been added.
Godspeed!

Same here on a group message with 6 contacts. I never see the "+ Add Contact".
Since the programmer forgot to put ADD to an already established group text and QC missed it...Can't it be corrected in a future update....I am a recent APPLE I PRODUCT customer and can't believe the number of things that are BETTER on Android. I would think this would be an easy fix...
So, as of end of Jan, 2018, there is STILL no fix for this????? I don’t get it....with as many updates that are sent out, I’m quite surprised this can’t be included????? Are there any Apple employees reading this that could tell us what the status is on this, or why it can’t be done?????
Hello,
Add or remove someone from a group conversation
Anyone in a group iMessage can add or remove someone from the conversation. You can remove a person from a group iMessage that has at least three other people.
Add a person
From:
Send a group message on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support
Add a Contact
From:
Send a group message on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support
Doesn't work in many cases.
When you have several contacts (in my case 8), the list of contacts is truncates after 5, and the last rectangle at the bottom of the displayed contacts says "SHOW MORE (3)". No "Add Contact" button.
So I press the "Show More (3)" button, and see the whole list. But at the bottom of the list it says "HIDE" (to display on the first 5 again). There is no "Add Contact" button in this case.
The iOS programmer neglected to recognize this common scenario, and the quality control didn't catch it.
This is my first iPhone and I wanted to go back to Android about a month after I got it. Many things are much more straight fwd with Android. ***** that you can't add contacts that are using an Android to an existing group text. I find Apple just isn't willing to play with Android in many cases and I hate that!
Yeah, not being able to modify a group is a big hassle. Seems like an easy fix for apple. How can we get this changed?
same here. i have 5 people in the chat and no add button. sad
The solution posted DOES NOT WORK when there are already more than 5 contacts. FIX THIS ISSUE, APPLE
This is ridiculous. At a stretch, I can understand not being able to name the group chat if there is an android user in the group, but adding one after the fact? There's no excuse for that!
Actually, we have the same problem here as with "renaming a group text". In the Apple response at the top, it carefully says "Anyone in an iMessage group can add or remove someone..." the key word being iMessage. Unfortunately, ALL members of a text group have to be iPhone users or you cannot have an iMessage group and most of the features, including adding persons or naming the group are not allowed. This really is a draw back where Apple doesn't have create one! Also disappointed...
also disappointed on my 1k iPhone screen already scratched from normal use. For that price should been Sapphire glass.
It is very lame that apple hasn’t got this functionality yet. I mean really?
For ****’s sake, Aplle. Yes I am sweark g sonit hopefully is spotted faster. This is absolutely ridiculous. How do we add someone to a group text if there may or may nkt be an Android user. ****! What a frustrating and disappointing dilemma. We don’t want to be able to send 3D overlays of Dinosaurs or wjatever you’re working on, but WE MAY WANT BASIC FUNCTIONALITY COVERED.
