MacBook Pro 2017 battery life?

Greetings,

How much of the battery is supposed to be drained while the lid is closed and the computer is sleeping?

I couldn't figure out why I had to charge my MacBook Pro more often than I thought I would have to.

I noticed the battery was draining more than I thought it was supposed to while it was sleeping.

From 5AM to 4PM the battery went from 76% to 55%.

Is this normal?

I believe the only programs that were open were Spark (email app), iMessage, and Finder.

There isn't much installed on this comp because it's brand new (got it on Monday) so I don't believe there are a bunch of things running in the background eating up the battery.

Are there any known issues with the MacBook Pros (2017) battery?

UPDATE

The battery just went from 54% to 49% with the lid closed and sleeping.

It was asleep for about 10 minutes.

MacBook Pro (15-inch, 2017), macOS Sierra (10.12.5), null

Ive had Macs since 1988. MacBooks since they were available. I bought a new MacBook Pro a month ago. The battery was a 3 or 4 hour battery. That's it. Really bad. I complained, traded for an Air (screen is shameful). Then got another Mac, lost money in the exchange. Hours at the store, with AppleCare, Chatting, get no where. Then, One chat advisor suggested resetting the "SMC". It resets lower level power issues. I did this and now have a 7 - 8 hour battery.

You hold shift-control-option and push the power button. Hold for exactly 10 seconds and release. That's it. Try that and resetting the p-ram. That's option-command-P-R and start the Mac. Let run with all buttons pressed for about 20 second. It should restart twice.

But I think the SMC is the key... Or get a PC. LOL

I just bought my MacBook Pro without touch bar and received it in the mail on Thursday. Mine is draining within a couple hours and I’m having the same issue as you when I put it in sleep mode it’s draining fast and I didn’t expect it to while in sleep mode. I had the MacBook Pro from around 2011 and that battery life seems to last longer than this one is even after all those years of having it. I’m going to wait a couple days to see if everything settles down, since I haven’t had it long but for spending this much on a laptop just expected the battery life to be the same as my last. The battery life seems to be an issue for a lot of people. Hoping it gets better.

Hi JonZ68,

I need to know at what power usage you get the 7-8 hours of usage. I mean my MBP (with Touch-bar) can reach even more than that, but only if the battery discharge at 5 watts. This is for example 2 google chrome tabs and spotify, which is way less than what I normally do daily. I also have to say that brightness only at 6 bars. do you think i need to do the SMC what you mentioned above?

I ordered a brand new MBP 15.4" maxed out with the fastest processor and 2TB storage. Out the box I was getting 2.5 to 3 hours after migrating all my data from Time Machine. The most I got was 4 hours after some resets. I returned it and got a new one. Out the box, as is, I turned all Energy Saver functions off, dimmed the display and keyboard a bit and just let it sit there. Batter life was about 12 hours. After a few hours I played a 2 hour video on YouTube. Battery life went down to about 8 hours or so with roughly 5 hours on, 3 hours remaining.

Copied all my files over and batter life is back down to 2.5 hours. Today, with screen dimming on battery, lower brightness levels and display sleep after 15 minutes, I basically did nothing but play music on iTunes over Bluetooth to my home entertainment center and spent about 30 minutes in QuickBooks. Battery lasted 2.5 hours. Pathetic. This one will go back soon and I'll keep returning them until I get one with at least 8 hours. I understand 10 hours is the "up to" number using iTunes to watch a movie. If I can't even play music for 2.5 hours then something is wrong. 25% of the advertised battery life using less power than watching a video is nowhere near what they're selling.
