i'm starting to think that this is software related. my setup is a keyboard connected to lightning to usb camera connector kit to ipad pro 10.5 to external speakers on 3.5mm jack. when using garage band latency is horrible, it comes back even after restarting the app, reconnecting the kit, etc... i tried KORG app, its smooth sailing from there then I switched back to garageband, huge latency comes back again, so i switched back to KORG, no/unnoticeable latency.

It's a bug. Let's hope it's not a hardware bug, which would mean Apple had to do a product recall. Nobody wants that.

In the Audiobus forum they're reporting glitchy performance with USB audio interfaces as well. So this is probably a more fundamental bug related to the new hardware than just a little buffer bug.

I wish Apple had a big enough love to their customers/ community to send a representative to this thread and offer a statement like:

We're aware of the bug. It affects the new iPad Pro 2017 lineup. It will be resolved in iOS 11.0. Sorry for the inconvenience.

And then shut the thread. Then we would know, that they know, that we know... etc...

That would be the right thing to do, when serious bugs appear like this. And it would take a representative a minute to do it.

If they don't have it under control yet, they could say:

We're aware of the bug, and the team is working to resolve it in a coming software update. Sorry for the inconvenience.

I have the 10.5" and the simple unplug/reinsert jack trick works for me when using just cans, so I don't regret the investment. On the contrary it's already fantastic even before iOS 11. Also, apart from bringing other improvements particularly appropriate to the new pros, 11+ will most probably fix this issue - I'll be very surprised if it doesn't.

If you need a new ipad now, I say go for it. Otherwise, wait a couple of weeks :-)

Even though the issue is to do with the jack (hardware), imo it's a software problem due to the non-implementation of new coding rules for ios 11 in apps.

I even wonder if we'll be surprised by having a new ios 10+ for 32/64bit devices, and ios 11 for 64bit devices (as well as ios 9.3.5 for 32 bit devices). Anyway, I suspect Apple has something up their sleeves, but can't tell us just yet, and can't even let the cat out of the bag by showing something in the ios 11 betas and even GB!

Just a hunch :-)

Found a solution! I can confirm that upgrading to iOS 11 solves the issue. I was having the same issue and it was driving me crazy last night. Read through this whole thread then thought to download the beta of iOS 11. Boom, problem solved. Just go to beta.apple.com to sign up as a public beta tester and download the beta. At this point most of the bugs have been addressed as the release of the gold public version is coming very soon (in a week I believe).

If you’d prefer to wait for the official release of iOS11 I can confirm that it will work.

Hope this helps.

Hello, I'm experiencing the same problem with my new iPad Pro 12.9 2017, this bug makes it totally unusable for audio work, unfortunately I bought it for that particular task. After reading a hundred of similar posts over the internet I'm wondering if my best option is not to ask for a refund. it sounds like the problem is hardware and can not be addressed with software updates. Can someone confirm that please. Thanks

I bought a 10.5 in the end and risked it.

I am using 256gb 10.5 ipad pro. 3 simultaneous Bluetooth midi devices inputting data to KORG Gadget, KORG Module and Cubasis.

There is latency on the headphone output. It builds up over minutes. IOS 11 didn't solve it. Unplugging headphone output and plugging back in temporarily solves the latency for a few mins. Then it builds back up.

There is no latency when using external usb sound card (alesis io4) and as far as i can tell no latency when coming directly out of the lightning port using the lightning to headphone converter.

If you are using Bluetooth controllers like me then you can just take audio out of lightning port with no latency. If you have to use the lighting port for midi controller then maybe a hub would work?

I reported 2 times like iPad report bug and one time like ios11 tester but ..... Silence... Anybody knows an official and pubblic way to report this bug....

So at this moment I suggest don't buy iPad for semipro and pro audio production without a external sound card.

If you need portable set to use with headphone... Forget it don't work.

I bought iPad tree months later and I can't use it like tablet but only like desktop station .... So I think why I pad and no a cheaper Pc?

Sorry if I rude but I pay for Apple support(zero) .... Quality product(low) ... I understand probably it is a minor big but who are here buy iPad for music....

Someone help us... Tnx

Will
