Updating OSX 10.8.5 to El Capitan - Meet Requirements, but App store says I don't.

According to apple spec page I meet the requirements to upgrade to El Capitan. I am running 21.5-inch, Mid 2011, 12 GB RAM, 300+ GB free space, OSX 10.8.5.

However the App Store Will not let me "get" El capitan.


Error reply from App Store.

We Could not complete you purchase. This version of OS X 10.11 cannot be installed on this computer.


Any ideas Apple?

iMac (21.5-inch Mid 2011), OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.5), 12 GB Ram

Well Apple is correct if you had an El Capitan installer. But as mentioned, it can't be downloaded from the App Store to a machine that can run Sierra. If you know someone who has a Mac that can run El Capitan but not Sierra you could get them to download it for you. Or perhaps an Apple Store could give you a copy if you take them a flash drive. Maybe.
