Iphone disconnected problem during backup

I have a problem when I am trying to make a backup of my Iphone 7 and iTunes via USB cable - Iphone disconnected problem - "iTunes could not back up the iPhone because the iPhone disconnected". I cannot backup to my computer. In the same time, Wi-fi backuping to iCloud was completed succesfully.

I am using latest iOS 10.3.3 and Windows 10x64 (version 1703, build 15063.483) with all updates and latest iTunes 12.6.2.20 and good ASUS motheboard with good powerful USB 3.0 porrts and original Apple USB-ligtning cables.

I tried to use 3 different cable and 4 different USB ports, with no result.

I tried to reinstall everything, I stopped antivirus, activated "At the Plane" mode, and made all other tricks which I found here, with no result.

I had this error with previous versions of iOS and iTunes as well, but when I had iPhone 5, I did not have this error on the same desktop computer.

I posted my solution in another post too (check my profile),credits to iMazing team.

I will try to describe the steps:

The is a bug in iOS 10.3.3 that prevents the backup due too special characters in the files. So you have to find that app and uninstall it.

I will try to describe the steps:

-Install iMazing

-Run a back up (with iMazing not iTunes) and check the process bar % and remember the number where the backup will fail

-From iMazing start menu press "show device console",move the windows somewhere near and press PAUSE

-Start a backup again and 5-10 % before the error happens, press RESUME on device console.

-As soon as the backup fails, pause the console and press SAVE,to create a txt file.

-Now it the file search for "No operation found for path"

-You will see a line like "'No operation found for path: /var/mobile/Containers/Data/Application/9944C65F-F8E5-4CA5-951B-7B6AF0A40D1D/Documents/File-Name-With-Special-Characters'

-The first bold string is the Unique ID of the rogue APP and the second it the rogue file name.

-Try to identify the file from the type or name by googling and delete it.

I tried all the Internet-suggested modalities. None of them worked. My problem is conditional. An iPhone 6S completes a backup, and an iPhone 6S+ does not. Same iOS, same Windows 7 Pro sync PC, same USB port, same lightning cable. Same everything, just two different iPhones. The thing which makes the backup go sideways on the 6S+ ? Where do I start? Apple refuses to support the open architecture FLAC lossless audio codec. The only lossless codec supported by Apple is their own, the ALAC codec. This forces everyone who wants to play their lossless FLAC library to find A) another audio player, and B) another way to get the lossless music into their iOS device. I use the Onkyo products on some of my surround systems, so I decided to use their iOS app 'HF Player'. I also have some mid-to-high tier Onkyo headphones which this app supports nicely. Putting the app in my iPhone causes no grief. It's only when I put an album worth of FLAC music in the 6S+ that it will refuse to backup. And FYI, the message is actually incorrect. The phone does not actually disconnect. I've gotten that message, then seen it continue to move several books into my phone during a sync. New contacts sync, everything actually syncs. Just the backup crashes. If I pull the FLAC files out, the backup goes off without a hitch. The two iPhones are about as identical as one could hope for, Same 128GB storage, same processor, same iOS, same everything but screen size. The 6S backs up and the 6S+ does not if there's FLAC files involved. I'd really like an answer. It previously worked on an earlier version of iTunes and iOS. Something seems to have gotten broken along the way.

Hi again - I've followed your instructions. FYI, "Pause" didn't stay paused in my version of iMazing (no "Resume" option popped up either) - so I let it run all the way and then just used the search bar at the bottom of the console to look for the "no operation..." language, which I found.

There were several instances and I have been unable to find anything by googling the file, or by using a Spotlight search.

All of the file names ended in M^Arias.html

All showed first throw call stack

All showed NSInternalInconsistencyException

All showed Terminating app due to uncaught exception

All showed cphlocalcachedirectory

I confess I don't know what any of this means - if someone reads this & says "Oh yes, I know what to do..." I'd be so grateful if you share! Thanks!

I guess I will remove all the music from my iPhone 7 to see if that fixes it next time I try. I did notice that one of the back-up that I saved that is now in my mobile sync folder is much bigger than the original one I looked at when the backup problem first happened as once the backup went 3/4 of the way through the process before quitting and the sync on that one had seven steps instead of five steps. I had removed the old backup in that folder to my desktop at the time and tried that a bunch of times. I have no way of knowing if this is a full backup and the date of the last back up in Itunes still says the same date, 8/4/17. What is FLAC music and how do I look to see if something is that type?

FLAC stands for 'Free Lossless Audio Codec'. iTunes does not recognize nor will it easily sync it into your iOS device. Typical resolutions are 24 bit / 192 kHz and 24 bit / 96 kHz. It compresses the audio to be a smaller package, but it reinflates it to be identical to the original waveform. MP3, MP4, WMA and other popular codecs are lossy. You choose your level of loss versus file size and just live with the results. For most portable uses, lossy codecs are no big deal; we're listening through earbuds, or in a moving vehicle or it's just background music for dinner. For serious listening on a high res system in a controlled environment, lossless is radically better. If you had a FLAC collection, you'd know about it. Apple will sync their version of a lossless codec, ALAC .. the 'Apple Lossless Audio Codec'. Microsoft has their lossless codec as well. FLAC is open architecture and a universal exchange medium for studio quality sound.

Well I haven't changed my music or added any new music in many months so that can't be the problem I guess unless it does have something to do with a recent update either on Itunes or iPhone...I just know it started after an 8-4-17 update on Itunes as I couldn't update when I tried again on 8-6-17. What about what I have read about the lockdown folder on other sites. Can I delete that folder or empty it and see what happens?

When anyone writes code, it is always imperfect. Updates typically do two things: fix known bugs and introduce new features. Sometimes those updates introduce some unanticipated bugs in the process. iTunes and iOS track each other. A new iTunes release usually predicts a soon to be updated iOS. Whatever coding changes we've had recently, my Onkyo player and it's FLAC files previously caused no issues in a sync. More specifically, the size and method of importing the FLAC files did not interfere in the backup that's part of a sync. In my estimation this is an Apple oops that will only be resolved in a future iOS release.

Thanks for this hint! I found that the filenames with special characters (probably anything outside ASCII) causing the iPhone backup using iTunes to abort (after an upgrade to iOS 10.3.3) can also be seen in the OS X console tool, looking at the log messages displayed for the iPhone device in question. An example of such a message is:

*** Terminating app due to uncaught exception 'NSInternalInconsistencyException', reason: 'No operation found for path: /var/mobile/Containers/Data/Application/1A0E8959-1891-46FD-844E-522119C91901/Do cuments/Wypt_185_-_Stóragjá.gpx'

After renaming the files causing backup to abort in the iPhone app to which they belong so that they don't contain any special characters, the backup now runs smoothly again, completing without aborting.

Backups on Windows 7 are at ..

C:\Users\<insert you user name here>\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\

You will need to adjust your PC to show hidden files, folders or drives since AppData is hidden.

Go to Control Panel > Folder Options and look at the 'Hidden files and folders'; tick the 'show' option, then 'OK'.

You will see very long folder names that are your individual iOS devices, then 260 subfolders.

Inside those you see very long file names with no extensions .. as an example: fe927cace03e095d67340a2c54d14808479ed113

Best of all, you may have chosen to encrypt or not to encrypt your backups.

There is third party software to peruse and hammer on the contents. Be very very careful ...

Hello there! Had the same problem and have tried everything to solve this out. Nothing worked, except this:

https://imazing.com/blog/ios-10-3-3-device-disconnected-error-during-backup-fix

It worked like a charm!!! The problem had to do with the filenames of certain .doc files located in the downloads folder of the ifiles app. The docs had names with Greek characters (fonts) and this is why the backup could not be completed. I deleted the .doc files and IT WORKED!!!

Thought I should post this, as I have been very frustrated not to be able to back up my iPhone!

Dead on, Lawrence

Specific FLAC files pushed over to use with Onkyo's HF Player were the issue.

Example: Arne Domnérus - Jazz At The Pawnshop I - 01 - Limehouse Blues.flac

It's that non-English accented e [the é] that was causing the crash and burn.

When I chose to bring over pure ASCII character titles, there no issues.

Same rules apply to HTML I recall; you can use non-ASCII in text but not to title a Web page.
