I'm no tech wizard but it worked for me. I have no idea what firmware is. All I know is erasing my iPad worked for me.

This would only work for iOS devices, not Macs.

Just make sure you have proof of purchase or they won't do anything. At this moment because I don't have proof of purchase, ****

What country are you based in if you don't mind me asking? I've been onto Apple for the last 2 weeks and they are outright refusing to do anything without an original purchase receipt.

I literally just logged into my iCloud on the computer and you can turn the lock off and change your password

Have you tried your own existing passcode to turn off Lost Mode?

Yeah if you have a passcode you can get in w/o a reset. Just click the home button until it asks for the passcode.
