What is textinput on iPhone
What is textinput? It just showed up on my iCloud storage & I have no idea what it is. It shows "documents and data." And is filling up my storage.

I wouldn't worry about it as it has shown up for me as well, and I have seen a couple of folks on the internet inquire about it too.
I believe it has something to do with iOS 10.3.2 -- About the security content of iOS 10.3.2 - Apple Support. I reached out to Apple Support on Twitter and they told me to not to worry about and to not remove it either.

Though I'm not sure why it matters if it's there or not.
Actually when I first saw it, I couldn't stop perseverating about it's appearance on my device, but now I just ignore it.
Thanks again.

30KB may not sound so big to some but on an iPhone that only has 5GB this is taking up a lot of space for me. Teeny weeny I think might be when you have unlimited space.
Again, 30KB is a drop in a GB bucket - literally.
1 MB = 1000 KB
1GB = 1000 MB
So, 30 out of 5 Million is a drop....

In 1980 I was in US, and saw the first IBM PC with only 1 floppy disc as possible storage, and everyone had to fight against KBs to save space. Times have changed, but noboby here is able to convince you (and some other users) to consider that a 30KB file is... really nothing in terms of weight.
Even if mathematics is not an opinion, all right, I give up.
You (and some other users who follow this discussion) can obviously keep thinking that this file is taking up "a lot" of space

I have deleted the Textinput from iCloud Storage, but it came back. Deleted again, came back again in 2-3 minutes...
The only advantage of deleting of my original Textinput file was that now the Textinput file's size is much smaller now. So you may want to delete it everyonce in a while to reduce the file size.

If you've made it smaller by deleting it, that means you had personalised shortcuts and now you don't, ho-hum, I suspect this is the last thing people should be doing.
It almost seems as if the trend toward minimalism has spread to electronics. I do not get this "It really doesn't take up much/any space, is not where I have to look at it every day and has no impact on my daily use but I don't use it so I must get rid of it" mentality.
My brother, who had a Nokia flip phone until a couple of years ago (he'd still have it if it hadn't gotten destroyed in a flood), used to complain about Snake. He wanted it off the phone.
I think it's might be nothing more than a desire to moan about something. IMO, Apple's walled garden is what makes for simplicity and the 'it just works' factor, I think it's rather humorous to see people buy Apple's products for these reasons and then criticise the lack of customisability.

"But, but, but.... if Steve Jobs were still alive..... we'd be able to do it!!!!!!!" That's the version that makes me fall off my chair.

Yes, Idris, with your expression "trend toward minimalism" you perfectly caught my point of view 😉.

While I believe most people in the first world have too much stuff, minimalism purely for the sake of minimalism is not really a virtue. In my opinion.
I may be incorrect, but I think it has to do with driving and texting.
In some States in the US when/where you are pulled over for texting while driving, this would be checked by the police officers equipment.
In my state you will be pulled over if caught speaking on the phone.

This file has nothing to do with texting and driving. It doesn't necessarily have anything to do with texting at all. It is the file that contains typing shortcuts that are synced across devices. If you read the thread from the beginning, it's pretty well explained. I even supplied pictures in one of my responses.
I actually deleted it the moment I saw (clicking on it and delete option). Nothing happened. A few days later I found my shortcuts in text replacement was deleted. Now I know that's at least 1 part that links to this textinput..
I disagree that "we shouldn't be concerned" as the other person said so casually. We should all be concerned with Apple, or any company, adding information collecting data and charging us for it. I would like to know what this is, too. "Don't worry about it." isn't an acceptable answer from Apple. Apple, we are worried about it! Please respond.

Apple isn't collecting data and isn't charging you for anything. It's your data stored in your iCloud account. It's not something that Apple can access or use. You get 5 gigs for free. The amount of space that the file for syncing your text shortcuts across all of your devices takes up is minuscule.

OMG - what are you on about? Apple is neither "collecting" data, nor "charging" you for it. It is a simple text file that is part of the overall operating system. If you text, and ever use shortcuts, then that is what it is. There is no government conspiracy with Apple to take over all of your personal information with the ultimate goal of controlling you, your family, your friends, your country. You really need to take several deep breaths and relax a little. There is NOTHING that warrants any worry here. Save your worrying for something worthwhile.

Are you saying that the Apple and the U.S. Government are not extremely interested in the fact that I have a text abbreviation for "Best of luck"? They're not interested in me?!? I feel unloved.
