Wifi drops when phone is locked or goes to idle and reconnect when screen is on.
This happens after the last ios update.
Model :iphone 5.

This is not anecdotal. I have been testing it with every iOS release. Nothing has changed. Here is how to actually test it:
Every time a major version is released I do this again. The response has never changed in 10 years.
Repeat the test with the phone plugged in; it won't go to sleep. It may wake up for a few seconds if the phone receives a notification such as a Push email alert, which is an external stimulus, but apps that originate communications will not wake it and will use cellular data.
Mine doesn't disconnect from the WiFi when locked, like it always have (3-4 years), but started doing it since recent updates. Hey, maybe your phone is just one of the billion iPhones that does it?

Can you please help me find the Documentation for Background App Refresh ! I would like to see the notes on it and if there is any "method/function" related to Wi-Fi specified in it!
Thank you for your time in verifying it! So it seems like there is indeed a variation in “reconnection time”.
Have you tried turning the auto login off as well?
Perhaps, stop being disimissive of other people’s concerns, and actually investigate it?

I think it’s a bug because only certain users experience this stuff or it is some part of the Code not working as it is intended too !
To that point, mine is an iPhone 6 and your solution worked.
Same issue happening to my phone since i update it to 11.2 i just recently got an iphone 8 plus. And when my phone is locked wifi is not connected.
There is no Auto Login Here
