macbook pro stuck loading in after logging on

This morning, my MacBook decided to not fully start up. After I put in my password and hit enter it goes to the usual loading bar but stops somewhere between 50% and 75%. I let it sit like this for almost an hour and it still does nothing.

I have tried booting up in safe mode, but it does the same thing. I have also done the "command option p r" thing which also didn't help. And I have also tried to reinstall the os which didn't help either.

I am running sierra. Don't know what else I can try but any help is appreciated.

It's possible that one of your login items is corrupted.

Try the following:

Allow your Mac to boot up normally to the logon screen.
Enter your password, but DON'T click on Login yet.
Hold down the SHIFT key, and then, click on the Login button. (Note: This should bypass any login items in your user profile.)

Does your Mac continue to the Desktop screen now?

Thanks for that, I will look at that myself and good idea on the Time Machine back up. I agree with Apple at the moment it is getting ridiculously expensive and others are catching up both in product and design and costs which are waaay less.

I spoke too soon. The problem is back and worse. Now the login loading bar never finishes and also now the boot loading bar never finishes (I know there should be no connection between the two loading bar situations).

I wanted to just wipe it and reinstall, but the OS loading bar slows down exponentially and never finishes. Tried booting from recovery partition, my USB install flash drive (which I know works), and even Internet reinstall (Command + R).

I took it to the Apple Store. They couldn't diagnose it quickly so I had to leave it with them. This Mac is only 13 months old so it's probably worth repairing.

I too am having the same problem...my MacBook Pro 2012 (10.11.2) is starting up normally, but after login, it stalls out with the Apple logo onscreen.

After trying the NVRAM reset, the progress bar appeared after login, but stalled at 50%...subsequent reboots stall at the Apple logo, again.

About two months ago, the hard disk failed on this computer, and I replaced it with an SSD & reinstalled OSX.

Update...I shut it down again & rebooted...this time I got a flashing "No" logo at first, then the Apple logo, then the login screen.

Trying to login, now...stuck at the Apple logo, again.

I'm thinking maybe the Samsung SSD I installed a few months ago is corrupted...

I managed to login on an old iBook G4 using that method, but the cursor keep spinning non stop. What is next step?

Has anyone found a solution yet, this has happened to me this morning and I also have tried the various solutions offered with no positive results. Very frustrating!

After trying a few more times some other things that I've noticed is that the mouse sensitivity is way lower than what it use to be and the screen brightness randomly changes while it's frozen. Not sure if knowing that helps at all
