Forgotten ipad password (More complicated than you think)

Haven't used my Ipad in 3-4 years so I have forgotten my password. I have followed the normal instructions to connect my ipad to my pc and open itunes then put my ipad into recovery mode by pressing the home button and wake button. On the instructions a notification should appear on the pc to either restore or update. But it says that it cannot interact with the Ipad because there is a passcode on the ipad and it needs to be unlocked first -_- . pls help 🙂

See "Erase your device with recovery mode to remove your passcode" here:

If you forgot the passcode for your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, or your device is disabled - Apple Support

Read that section carefully. You very likely need to hold the home and wake buttons longer than you did previously.

That was the web page that I was looking at before. And I was coming to this screen each time before. Gyazo - a40facebc9f7d5e6e18bfd92254169ec.png . I did the same as before and held the buttons for an extra but nothing has changed.

Sorry, I am not going to click on your external link. You may embed a screen shot in your post if you wish.

You need to keep holding both the home and wake buttons until you see a recovery mode screen (after you see the Apple logo).

OK, as stated in Step 2 of the "Erase your device with recovery mode ..." section, you should see the screen as you posted it.

After seeing this screen, you should eventually get to the "restore or update" screen as discussed in the article.

Have tried this 10 times but doesn't seem to be working for me 😟 only coming to the picture I posted in another reply.

The only time it actually goes to that picture is when i already have the ipad plugged into my pc. On the instructions you sent it says that it shouldn't be connected however that doesnt work at all. :/

Hey there.

If you've tried all the steps to get the iPad into recovery mode, and it still won't work, it's possible there's user error or a hardware issue.

It sounds like you're doing the steps right, if you're following the article, so i could rule out user error. it's possible a hardware issue, so I'd take it in for evaluation.

Hi. Take a look at this thread, link: DFU mode to Restore. for how to enter DFU mode. It is tricky.

As stated in my first post that does not appear a different box appears that says it cannot interact with the ipad as the ipad has a password that needs to be unlocked
