I did connect a 30 inch apple cinema display to my windows 10 dell laptop ! i have them both working now but how do i obtain full resolution on the apple cinema display? I have 60 Hz ratio in my laptop and 1920 X 1080 is my maximum resolution of the windows laptop. Any ideas/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
What type of connection are you using to the laptop? The 30" needs DUAL LINK DVI for full resolution. There are adapters to that from DisplayPort or Mini DisplayPort, but not from HDMI or VGA.

It will work, with the correct adapter, if the laptop has dual-link DVI, (Mini) DisplayPort, or Thunderbolt. HDMI is the problem.

If the adapter were dual-link, it would work if the laptop has USB-C (or Thunderbolt-3). It won't work via adapters to a laptop with USB-2. Since it doesn't say dual-link, it is almost certainly single-link.
Is HDMI the only connection on the laptop? If there is also DisplayPort or Mini DisplayPort, you can get full resolution.
Single link can't handle greater than 1920 X 1200. You would need a dual-link version of your adapter, but nobody makes one, and the laptop HDMI would need to be HDMI 2.0, which is unlikely.
(The third connector on the display's cable is FireWire, which you don't need.)
If HDMI is the only graphics port, the laptop is probably not capable of 2560 X 1600, so couldn't drive the 30" at full resolution, even if there were HDMI to dual-link DVI adapters.

That adapter is single-link, even though it uses a dual-link DVI connector, so will not handle a resolution greater than 1920 X 1200

Can you send me an example for such kind of an adapter you have explained please?
I have three wires coming out of my monitor, one is USB, one is DVI male and the third one is may be mini-display port/ display port. Right now, using the adapter mentioned above, I connected the DVI male to this adapter's female port and the male HDMI from this adapter to my laptop but there is no full resolution coming out. I partially understood your previous reply, but what exact adapter will I have to use ?
That does make sense but I only have three USB ports and a HDMI port ! If you can provide me with a solution to get the full resolution, it will help me a lot at this point of time for me to do my senior design at college as a student.

Dear Malcolm, i finally found a DVI dual link female to HDMI 1.3 male at staples. I hope it works. Its on its way home.
Nothing worked out even with my new cable. Let me know if you have an alternative for this.
