After iTunes 12.7 how can I add custom ringtones?

Ringtones have been removed from iTunes with 12.7, so how can I add custom ringtones. I do not want to buy ringtones from the store, I want to manage my current custom ringtones and add new custom ringtones.

So, it looks like you can still drag ringtones onto your device listed in iTunes. This last part of the page at this link shows this process. Haven't tried it myself yet.

Saifan, I followed your step-by-step instructions but am still unable to copy over my ringtones, either by drag/drop into iTunes or via the "Automatically Add to iTunes" directory. I tried this on both the OSX and Windows 10 versions of iTunes with my 2015 iPhone 6 running iOS 11. The ringtones I want to add are the free Portal 2 ringtones released by Valve in 2012; these tones were sadly lost from my phone during the upgrade process, which necessitated an iCloud restore for reasons I shan't discuss, and from my iTunes library prompting a download de novo.

This is what my iTunes looks like on OSX when clicking "Edit" next to "Library". There is no option to view or manage tones on my OSX device. Dragging m4r files onto the "Tones" option under device, or into the list of Tones open on the right, have the same effect - which is to say, none, regardless of whether I try to add them all at once or only one at a time.

What other steps can I try to restore these tones?

Yes, "Manually manage music and videos" is checked. When I say I followed your step-by-step instructions, I mean I followed each step in your instructions until the point where a step failed. In your case, that was at step #3.

It appears you may be using a different version of iTunes than me; where I have "Manually manage music and videos", you indicate "Manually manage videos".

I was wrong. I had admin mode unchecked in Properties - Shortcut - Advanced, but it was checked in Compatibility (not even sure how those two checkboxes are different?); so I was running in Admin mode when I thought I wasn't.

(I guess that explains why I was surprised that iTunes actually started.... as another forum discusses, there is a conflict in Win 10 v1073 between iTunes and the Bluetooth driver).

So, unchecked both Admin modes, killed BTTRAY.EXE, started iTunes, and voila, drag and drop works.

Ringtone back on my phone!

(the BT issues is here: Why doesn't iTunes launch under Windows 10 Creator?)

I saw the above and had a similar problem as I did not know I was running in administrator mode. I disabled it and killed killed BTTRAY.EXE in task manager). Finally it worked! Thanks very much. It only took me about 4 hours to get this working! It does not really answer why Apple took my custom ringtones off but now I know how to get them back!
