After iTunes 12.7 how can I add custom ringtones?

Ringtones have been removed from iTunes with 12.7, so how can I add custom ringtones. I do not want to buy ringtones from the store, I want to manage my current custom ringtones and add new custom ringtones.

So, it looks like you can still drag ringtones onto your device listed in iTunes. This last part of the page at this link shows this process. Haven't tried it myself yet.

I’m running Windows on an HP. Having the same issues. I’ve amassed 600 home made ringtones and with the newest iTunes update, can’t get them to sync. They are m4r files and have worked previously

I’ve tried dragging and dropping (shows a link option when hovering over tones folder but nothing happens when released)

I’ve tried cutting and pasting, to which it appears to upload the files but then shows them grayed out as in the pic, clicking sync after syncs my phone and it looks like it’s going to but then cancels and doesn’t do anything

I’ve tried copying into and back out of Garageband and nothing

I don’t know how to or how to not run as administrator nor do I know where to find the bttray exe thing.

I just want my ringtones back.

Please help.

Weirder and weirder.

Tried that method and it will now sync a newly made ringtone but only 1 part. I usually cut serveral different pieces of a song

So I’ll have

Bruno Mars - that’s what I like 1

Bruno Mars - that’s what I like 2

Bruno Mars - that’s what I like 3

But it will only let me put on one cut. It doesn’t seem to like me renaming each file beyond the .m4r for some reason

Head scratch

The file extension should be the final part of the file name.

  • Tone 1.m4r
  • Tone 2.m4r

etc. should be fine.

  • Tone.m4r 1
  • Tone.m4r 2

not so much, or is that not what you meant? 😕

There might also be an issue if each of the cuts has the same metadata. While you have the tracks in .m4a format connected to the iTunes library you should probably give them unique names.

Welp. I’ve tried renaming them completely different spectrums of names but only 1 cut will sync. Sometimes it’s the first, sometimes the second.

UPDATE: cancel that! It appears to have finally worked. I was trying unique names in the window browser but reread and retried your instruction of uniquely naming it while the m4a is in iTunes and I got TWO CUTS to sync.

Now to try more.

I tried all solutions listed on the page, to no avail. Why did Apple take away the ability to add custom ringtones, aside from restricting ringtone additions to purchased tones? That is not cool. What if the ringtone I want is not available in the iTunes Store? Monopolies are no good. I’ve been a loyal iPhone user for nearly a decade, but this change may influence my next phone purchase, probably an Android phone.

yes they did. i have tried every variation of every technique described here and NOTHING works, at least on my phone. the iphone tech himself said that i cannot create ringtones anymore because they want you to buy their ringtone. apple's greed knows no end, so instead of buying their ringtones or music or video i have instead stopped buying anymore anything from apple and they can go to ****.
