Updated iOS 11 and the split view multitasking doesn’t work

Updated iOS 11 and the split view multitasking doesn’t work, i’ve Got the 2nd generation pro 12.9

I drag an icon and it doesn’t get “long” like shown in the videos and the split view multitasking doesn’t open the app on the left or right, just goes back to the dock

Just held down power and home button till the apple icon appears. Not sure what that’s referred to

It's called a hard reset.

Apple doesn't like the term "hard" reset.

They prefer to call it a "soft" reset. Like you're petting a bunny, or something!

Same idea that Apple doesn't use the term "thick" to describe their mobile devices' depth dimension.

They like using the term "thin", instead.

An iPhone 7 is 7.1mm "thin"!

Yes, I finally found that down arrow on SOME but not all videos. But I found I could click on the home button and the video would minimize. I don’t know why the little arrow isn’t on some of the videos where it was in ios10. Biggest gripe is Apple still doesn’t have a guide for using iOS 11 and the communities support still doesn’t list ios11.

Yes I agree with you that it would be helpful to have an iOS 11 support community added. I’m finding it helpful to learn from other people‘s exploration (such as now when I run into the issue of no TV iconify icon, I’ll know to click the home button). I wish I didn’t have to wade through questions on everything else since the iOS 11 questions are all mixed in.

If Apple had a forum for every iOS version, things would get pretty confusing, repetitive and chaotic.

iOS pretty much works the same on a basic level.

We have had 10 versions of iOS.

Only features changed. A lot of the same, repetitive iOS questions would be needlessly asked and replied to over and over, again, in the scenario of having individual iOS version support community forums causing a lot more work and confusion for everyone who's involved here.

They grouped Slide Over, Split View and Picture In Picture into one big group.

My mom has a 1st gen iPad Air and it, definitely, does NOT DO split screen view multitasking , at all.

Slide Over only.

OS 9 introduced the Split view multitasking mode.

If it wasn't available to certain iPads in iOS 9 or 10, it's NOT available in iOS 11!

Except from the iPad Users guides from iOS 9.3 and iOS 10.

“Split View

Keep two apps open and active at the same time (iPad Pro, iPad Air 2, iPad mini 4).”

The ONLY place split view MAY work is when you have Safari open.

Apple implemented split screen multitasking view in Safari, so users can have two Safari web browser windows open at the same time

The iPad 5th gen can only do the Split screen view from within Safari

It can't split screen view with any other apps other than Safari

Perhaps the 1st gen iPad Air and other iPad Mini models CAN do split screen view from within Safari.

But do any other split screen view multitasking with any other apps, no.

I am the one who does all Apple and iDevice maintenance in my family and my mom's 1st gen iPad Air cannot do split screen multitasking with any other apps. Just does the smaller Slide Over view.

Hey,

If you think you get split screen view to work on a 1st gen iPad Air, then let me know.

Once Apple denies certain features on an iDevice, it doesn't change, especially since we have already gone through 2 iterations of iOS with certain, newer iPad model feature limitations.

My iPad 2 STILL doesn't have Siri voice commands, iPad 2, 3, 4 AND 1st gen Mini never got ANY of the cool and useful multitasking stuff.

It's the same across the board with all other iPad models, too!

The 1st gen iPad Air, iPad Mini 2 and 3 all get the Slide Over view, but no Split screen view.

It is what it is.

I'm just the messenger...
