Can't play ringtone in iOS 11

Please update to iOS 11.0.2. Hopefully, that should solve your problem.

Tried to fix the problem by transferring purchases and then syncing tones back?

Maybe I missed it, but nobody in this thread has mentioned the drag and drop solution, which works for custom ringtones for some people. I do not have any purchased ringtones so cannot test it on that.

October 26th - updated my iphone SE - same problem - after IOS upgrade will only play default ringtone on main incoming calls - even though ringtones all still there and all still play; talked to apple support who say they are aware of the issue - but no fix; have to wait apparently until they come up with something. Has anyone heard anything new - can't hear the default ringtone the minute I am in a busy area ...!

Maybe sign out of your Apple ID and sign back in. We had no difficulty previewing ringtones in iTunes. And you shouldn't either.

Please check settings and see if by chance during the iOS 11.0.3 update your phone turned on Vibrate on Ring.

Settings > Sounds > Vibrate on Ring (turn off if on)

Yes, I absolutely agree! Change the files extension to .m4r and during this process will the play time to below 40 seconds. I used 38 seconds to be sure.

I contacted Apple support last week, after 4 days of looking into the issue, the engineers do not have a fix, I was told to wait for an update to iOS 11 which will hopefully correct this ringtone problem.

And I'm not disagreeing that this should work. It will work again. And in your case, if it's a matter of safety not having a ringtone you recognize, you can purchase a new tone, which will work and prevent you from having to do something that could put you in harms way. And while many would argue they shouldn't have to purchase a new ringtone, which is true, it would cost less than a small coffee at Starbucks and it seems in your situation could save your life.

Nope, this isn't just about custom ringtones. Purchased Ringtones on some phones, which are selected in settings, don't play and the tone that plays is the default tone. We have two iP6. One didn't suffer this oddity. One did. On the one that did, we just purchased a new ringtone and it works fine.

I'm sorry if I gave the impression purchasing one ringtone and selecting it would somehow let all the others work. For most people, they just have a ringtone that isn't default and they were getting upset at having to have their phone ring with the default tone every time. This seems to be the only way to stop the default tone from ringing, but it won't solve the overall larger issue with all your selected ringtones. It's just a simple solution for the primary tone until Apple releases a fix.

Garage Band work-around satisfied me only because I basically remade the one custom ringtone that I use as my default ringtone. I realize that this is not monitored by Apple, but this should still be fixed for those that use ringtones as a caller ID, and for non-working purchased ringtones.
